The GSPCA would like to extend a huge thanks to iD Porte Ltd who recently called in to donate 6 new Halo Microchip Scanners which are entirely manufactured locally here in Guernsey and exported all over the world.

With over 1000 domestic pets rescued through the doors and over 500 hedgehogs each year the GSPCA use microchip scanners day and night to identify animals and with stray pets reunite them with their owners.

With 100 to 200 stray dogs, including road traffic accident and stray cats up to 500 felines, over 100 stray rabbits, 20 to 30 stray tortoise, around 30 to 50 stray ferrets, not to mention stray horses rounded up and others microchip scanners are used 24/7 by the GSPCA team.

Recently Nick smith Director of iD Porte Ltd, a local company and manufacturer of one of the leading chip scanners popped in with 6 purple hand held units which are not only rechargeable, the iD Porte Ltd team have kindly put on their locations so we can tell which unit belongs to which Animal Ambulance or Animal Department when you turn them on.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are hugely grateful to Nick and iD Porte Ltd for the donation of 6 purple Halo Microchip Scanners which are all labelled on their home screens for the departments they belong to.”

“We had a number of varied microchip scanners many of which required batteries and had quite a small read range to find a pets microchip.”

“The 6 new Halo Scanners not only recharge the read range to find a microchip is much better than some of the older models of scanners we have at the GSPCA.”

“With 1000’s of animals that we rescue and help every year that may well have a microchip the scanners have already had a lot of use in the short time we have had them for.”

“Not only are pets microchipped but we also microchip hedgehogs before they are released and with over 1000 over the year been chipped in Guernsey there are many out there we could have helped in the last 5 years or so.”

“Sadly it is not compulsory for Guernsey dogs or cats to be microchipped but we have seen a gradual increase to around 65% now chipped that we rescue or help.”

Nick Smith the Director of iD Porte Ltd said “It was great to meet the GSPCA team recently when I popped in to donate 6 new Halo Microchip Scanners from iD Porte Ltd.”

“The GSPCA help many strays and these scanners will really help them in their work finding the owners of lost Guernsey pets.”

“It’s been a bit of a year of family support for the GSPCA as my daughter Pippa raised £50 for the GSPCA playing the violin at the Sark Summer Festival, which was a very proud father moment.”

Steve continued “We are so grateful to iD Porte Ltd for the new microchip scanners and they have also given us a small number to sell at our GSPCA shop at only £40 each.”

“It is really important to ensure your pet is microchipped and we do it for dogs, cats and rabbits for just £4.99 at the GSPCA, just call 257261 to arrange a day and time, or call for any advice needed.”

“These scanners are a real wish come true and we have other items on our Wish List which can be seen by going to www.gspca.org.gg/about/our-plans-wish-list and to see our Amazon Wish List please visit - https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/25MJPPDAGXHL1?type=WishList .”
