Many may know Pongo the diabetic cat who arrived at the GSPCA during the first lock down.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Pongo has been at the GSPCA for over a year and might know him as he has been into the studios at BBC Guernsey and also featured in a calendar this year which is on sale across the UK from the ADCH.”

“All of the team think the world of Pongo and although there has been some interest due to the costs of food and treatment many were a little put off giving him a good home.”

“Recently we gave a tour to some of the A&E staff and introduced them to Pongo.”

“They went back to work and talked to one another and one who has had diabetic cats got in touch and yesterday Pongo went to his forever home.”

“We are all so happy for Pongo and wish home well with his new family.”

“We have a small number of cats ready for new homes but many have medical issues or are nervous.”

“Ophelia is the longest resident and she is extremely nervous and needs a very special home.”

“For those wanting to see some of the animals in need of a home please visit https://www.gspca.org.gg/animals but it is a good idea to complete an adoption form as we do have animals that aren’t on the website and once we have your details we can get in touch.”

Ali Le Huray GSPCA Animal Care Assistant handed over Pongo and spoke to the new owners “Pongo's new owner said they were drawn to Pongo because he has the experience of caring for insulin controlled diabetic cats.”

“As a professional medical care giver he also has the knowledge surrounding the illness.”

“His daughter has been wanting a cat since they moved to the island.2

“When they came to visit Pongo for the first time they just fell in love with him and knew they could give him the forever home he's been waiting for, plus he is so adorable.”

“We have quite a few cats with medical needs or special homes due to their nervous behaviour.”

“Anyone wanting to adopt a cat the best thing to do is complete one of our questionnaires which are online and at our reception.”
