Last night The Pavilion hosted the Dingley Dell Flying Visits 14th event and first of its kind in Guernsey.   The Dingley Dell Flying Visits are a series of events celebrating the journey of the pig from farm to plate.

Dingley Dell is approved under the RSPCA Freedom Food scheme and representatives from the scheme attended last night and were on hand talking to the fantastic turn out supporting the event.

The evening started with an introduction and a video farm tour from Mark Hayward the farmer, a short talk from Bob Waller from the RSPCA Freedom Food scheme and was then followed by demo from Kevin Burrows preparing some Dingley Dell Pork

Then it was down to the serious business of tasting the pork menu from the line up of top chefs who unleashed their creativity.

These included Eric Snaith from Titchwell Manor, Tony Leck from The Pavilion and the host,   Mark Poynton from Alimentum, Daniel Green from The Auberge, Murray Chapman from “A Passion to Inspire”, Simon Mckenzie from The Rockmount  and also featured students from “ A Passion to Inspire “.

For many of the diners each of the 5 course meal was complemented with a glass of wine and from starters to dessert each of the dishes included the Freedom Food approved pork which blew the guests away with the quality and taste.

After the meal Mark held an auction for parts of some the pork, and said a few words of thanks. Steve Byrne the GSPCA Manager also said a few words of thanks and explained how the proceeds raised for the GSPCA would be spent.  Steve Byrne also gave those involved with the event a certificate of thanks on behalf of the GSPCA.

The previous events have already raised over £40,000 for charity and the auction, part of the ticket proceeds as well as donations helped last night to raise funds for the GSPCA.  The final totals are still being counted but we are very excited about the amount raised.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said ‘The Dingley Dell Flying Visit was a fantastic event last night with an amazing turnout and wonderful people involved.’

‘It looks like we will have raised a huge amount for the GSPCA and it is great to be involved with something that has the welfare of animals at its heart.’

‘It was a lovely evening with superb dishes prepared by the top chefs and we must thank Tony Leck and his team at the Pavilion for the superb service.’

‘We really enjoyed learning from Mark Hayward about how he really cares for his pigs and meeting up with the RSPCA Freedom Food team.’

‘Thank you to Phoenix Fish as well as everyone involved and that supported the Dingley Dell Flying Visit last night at the Pavilion from all of the GSPCA.’

The RSPCA’s Freedom Food scheme is the charity dedicated to farm animal welfare and it has launched a new website where you can find all the latest news and information.

When you see the Freedom Food label you know that animals have been kept to strict RSPCA welfare standards. The standards cover the whole of an animals’ life, not just their time on farm. A stimulating environment and plenty of room to move around are just two of the many benefits.  Freedom Food can also be an affordable ethical choice, as they approve indoor as well as free range and organic farms. So, make one small change to your shopping and one big change to farm animal welfare. Find out where to buy Freedom Food and get recipe ideas now.
