Guy Hardill had never never swum in sea until 5 weeks ago and this coming Wednesday he plans to undertake a challenge he never thought he could do.

On the 3rd June Guy will swim the Havelet Bay circuit.

This swim includes going from the Bathing Pools to Castle, then back across red buoy, the M and back in to where he started.

Guy Hardill said “The Round Havelet Swim will take place now on Wednesday 3rd June at 5.30pm going from the Bathing Pools (Ladies pool) to Castle Cornet slip, touch the wall then back across the I and M markers and into the Bathing Pools once more.”

“I am a complete novice swimmer having never swum in the sea before 8 weeks ago, so this is a challenge.”

“I chose the GSPCA because i know what a fantastic job they do for Guernsey wildlife and also fly the flag for Guernsey in terms representation across the UK.”

“Funds are scarce in this lockdown period with no kennelling or cattery with people not traveling yet the Shelter needs to operate.”

“Steve and co have also lost their SeaFront Sunday which is a big blow, and I hope this fund raising will fill some of that void.”

“I also know they have lost an ambulance due to mechanical failure and all funds raised will go towards to that project.”

“So far £700 raised. Go to giving.gg and look for the event "Round Havelet Swim" if you wish to support me.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We cannot thank Guy enough for undertaking this huge challenge to help raise funds for our much needed new Animal Ambulance.”

“It is amazing to think that 5 weeks ago Guy had never swam in open water and he is now taking on this challenge in aid of the GSPCA.”

“Tomorrow should have been our BIGGEST event of the year bringing around 10,000 people together but with the coronavirus pandemic we have faced some of the most difficult days in our history and we continue to appeal for the much needed support during these very difficult days.”

“It is so sad that we won’t be holding our ninth GSPCA Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday but keep an eye on our facebook page as we will be releasing the winners of our Virtual Petshow which we have had over 500 incredible entries many of which we have put online already.”

“As well as Guy we have to make a special mention to his support kayaker from Go Guernsey, Phil Le Poidevin and his support swimmer Jo Hardill.”

“We wish Guy the best of luck and please donate to his swim by going to https://giving.gg/donate/event/5898/Round-Havelet-Swim or by all means call us on 257261 or by post to the GSPCA and we can put it all towards this incredible challenge to help us replace our Animal Ambulance that has come to the end of its days.”

“We love to hear from those wanting to undertake a challenge or event in aid of the GSPCA.”

“To create your own fundraising event in aid of the GSPCA please go to https://giving.gg/donate/ and please do let us know so we can help you promote it.”
