Last night the GSPCA team were devastated as Crash the grey seal pup passed away.

Found a ¼ of the weight he should have been emaciated and with an extremely bad infection Crash had been receiving treatment and around the clock care.

Despite having put on an additional 5kgs in weight in less than a week Crashes chest infection despite medication didn’t seem to improve and last night at 11pm he passed away.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are saddened to have to let everyone know that Crash the grey seal pup passed away last night.”

“Being found so thin and unwell last week the team and especially Head Of Marine Mammals Geoff had been working around the clock to care for Crash but he had an extremely bad chest infection.”

“It is devastating when an animal passes away as we all care so much for each of the animals in our care.”

“We still have Andy the seal pup and some good news is that he has been making some break throughs recently with his eating and behaviour.”

“This time of year is when many seals are pupping around our coast and it is important not to get to close and especially your dogs as they can often scare the mothers back into the water and this can result in the pups being abandoned.”
