Last Friday the GSPCA unveiled our redevelopment plans for the Shelter.

The GSPCA has been caring for animals in Guernsey for over 141 years, and we have been at our current site since October 1929.

Over 2000 animals come through the doors every year, and need the facilities to care for them.

Thankfully the 4 acre site is able to care for all of those animals in need, but sadly many of the buildings are extremely old and some even date back as far as the 1950's.

On Friday the GSPCA President John Knight and GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne presented the plans of how the GSPCA want to develop, refurbish and rebuild much of the 4 acre site in St Andrews.

Work has been going on behind the scenes to put together these plans with one of the biggest development plans currently with the Guernsey States Planning Department.

The first phase is looking at a two storey building which will take into account 6 sections of the Shelter.

It would include a large number of cat pens, new electrical housing, isolation facilities, a quarantine area, new laundry, storage, a meet and greet room and much more to help house and care for hundreds if not thousands of animals that will be held within it each year.

The first phase which is also looking at the reception area and to allow public to view some of the Shelter animals at certain times during the day.  The project is to cost approximately £1.3 million which will help replace many old structures.

The 10 year plan takes into account looking at all areas of the Shelter and we have many projects that include refurbishing and rebuilding the facilities for all the species we care for at the Animal Shelter.

We are always looking for support and if you or your business would like to support us we would love to hear from you.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'We would like to thank everyone that supported our launch on Friday and of course the OGH who looked after us.'

'Another special thanks must go to all of the media and local businesses that came along.'

'We have a lot to do in the next 10 years, but all of our plans are to help ensure that we have the facilities to give animals the best of care and so we can lead by example.'

'We would love to hear from anyone that would like to support our Redevelopment Plans at the GSPCA.'
