This year we the Petplan and ADCH received over 5,500 nominations from adopters, supporters, charity staff and volunteers.

They are thrilled that so many people have nominated to recognise the fantastic work that goes on in animal charities every day to help rescue and rehome pets in need. Their tireless efforts really do help to improve animal welfare.

Due to the quality and quantity of nominations received, the impartial and independent judging panel, which includes key industry representatives, had an extremely difficult task selecting three finalists for each category.

They are delighted to recently announce this year’s finalists and the GSPCA has some very exciting news:

Animal Charity Team of the Year

  • Feline Care Cat Rescue, Norfolk Halfway Home Dog Rescue,
  • Nottinghamshire Hope Rescue,
  • Mid Glamorgan Animal Charity

Employee of the Year

  • Jenna Martyn, Blue Cross Burford Rehoming Centre, Oxfordshire
  • Linda Cantle, Wood Green, Godmanchester
  • Yvonne Chauvel, GSPCA, Guernsey Animal Charity

Volunteer of the Year

  • Ann Knowles, Katz Castle Animal Shelter, Surrey
  • Gareth Dyer, Dogs Trust, Bridgend
  • Hannah Brookfield, RSPCA Manchester & Salford, Lancashire

The winners will be announced on Thursday 8th May 2014 at the Petplan & ADCH Animal Charity Awards ceremony held during the ADCH Conference in Birmingham. Look out for additional news and videos of the finalists in the coming weeks and revisit their site on 9th May to see the lucky winners!

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'What amazing news to find out that one of our wonderful team has been shortlisted from thousands of potential candidates.'

'Yvonne is not only the longest serving member of staff at the GSPCA, but the experience and knowledge she has, as well as her caring nature, the time she spends with volunteers and work experience, the fact she is always the first in, as well as the thousands of animals she cares for and saves every year means we are all so very proud of her.'

'The final is only a few weeks away but we are already planning a night out to celebrate Yvonne's wonderful achievement.'

'Between the UK, Channel Islands and Ireland there are tens of thousands of staff working and helping animals in phenomenal ways and for one of our team to be a finalist fills us all with a real sense of pride.'

Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said 'I was asked to come to the phone last week and I really couldn't believe what I heard.'

'It was a lady from the Petplan & ADCH Animal Charity Awards telling me that out of thousands of nominations I'd been shortlisted as a finalist for one of their awards.'

'I'm off to the finals in May and my sister is coming with me and it is all very exciting, but I still can't believe it.'

'They have a film crew coming over next week to talk to me and then the week after I'm off the the Awards evening.'

'I love working at the Animal Shelter and I'm so very proud of all we do at the GSPCA.'

The GSPCA Committee, Staff and Volunteers are all extremely proud of Yvonne and we are all wishing her luck for the 8th May.
