Today is World Tuirtle Day and we think back to those we have helped and those looking for homes.

Every year the GSPCA helps turtles but two years ago we helped rescue Olivia the loggerhead turtle that was found in Guernsey on Vazon on a cold winter morning very close to death.

After months of care and a lot of help by many islanders, businesses, the States and so many more she was flown to Gran Canaria to be released back to the wild.

Her story featured on the Dodo website and received over 1.4 million views in a matter of days.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "It was amazing to help Olivia the loggerhead turtle as there only around 40,000 females in the wild."

"We also had a green turtle we rescued 15 years which went to the same rescue in Gran Canaria who was called Murtle."

"We don't have any pallet sized turtles but we do currently have 6 musk turtles at the GSPCA."

"3 are looking for a home together and they are called Sprout, Cracker and Pudding so you may be able to guess when they arrived at the GSPCA."

"We hoep everyone takes a moment to think about World Turtle Day as they are are species they very much are suffering in the wild and we need to do all we can to help them."

"If you can't offer our turtles a home you can sponsor them through our Angel Pen Pal scheme."
