On Friday the 11th July and Friday the 18th July the GSPCA had two fantastic happy endings.

The first starts on the 3rd May this year when an unwell hedgehog was brought into the GSPCA that had been out in the day.

With a few health issues on entry the female hedgehog named Brie gave birth to Edam, Feta and Babybell only days after arriving.

After weeks of care the mother and her babies which were found in St Peter Port were released very close to where they were found in a safe area.

Our second story is about Ticky another female hedgehog that arrived at the Shelter on the 25th April covered in ticks.

The poor female hedgehog gave birth only three weeks after entering when she was in a much better condition.

The mother Ticky and her offspring Tobias and Tatum after months of rehab and care were released back to the wild on Friday last week.

Annie Janes Animal Care Assistant said "It has been a really busy year with hedgehogs especially after a very difficult winter for them."

"We have had lots of young hedgehogs in over the last few months an mums and getting them back to the wild always warms the heart."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "The team on the hedgehog department at the GSPCA have been kept extremely busy this year."

"From injuries due to strimmers and hedge cutters to those that haven't found enough it has been a hard year for hedgehogs in Guernsey."

"There are many ways to support our hedgehog department from helping donate cat food and honey, sponsoring a pen or even volunteering to help care for them."
