Last weekend the 18th Torteval Scarecrow Festival took place through the delightful lanes of the parish all starting from Torteval Church.

This was the sixth year the GSPCA took part in this wonderful community event and we are hugely grateful to the McIntyre family for the kind use of their front garden which displayed our fantastic entry ‘#GSPCATogether’.

This year the GSPCA not only had a fab entry made by Head of Scarecrows Seb Goman and the team, but we also were kindly invited to collect at the car park on the Saturday for much needed donations for the GSPCA.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are hugely grateful to the organisors of Torteval Scarecrow Festival for allowing us to take part for the sixth year with our GSPCA entry called ‘#GSPCATogether’ and to the McIntyre family for allowing us to use their front garden.”

“It was a fun entry of animal scarecrows with the theme from the covid briefings which has been a real focus over the last 18 months and we have been told both Judge Dr Brink and the organisors thought it was great fun.”

“This year we are also extremely grateful for the wonderful opportunity to collect donations for those parking their cars.”

“Through donations on the car park gate we raised an amazing £1,115 which is incredible as although it started as a lovely morning it got rather wet in the afternoon.”

“We had over 15 volunteers helping from team members and committee of the GSPCA to quite a lot of local Freemasons and their family and a huge thanks to all that gave up their time and of course to all that donated.”

“We have lots of events coming up and anyone wanting to help please do get in touch and thanks again to all those involved.”

Seb Goman Chief of GSPCA Scarecrows said “Huge thanks again to the Torteval Scarecrow Festival, we really enjoyed making our entry and taking part and we hope all the visitors liked our #GSPCA Together entry.”

“With over 140 hedgehogs, 4 seal pups, dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, fish, reptiles and many birds we help over 3000 animals through the doors every year.”
