On Saturday the first seal pup of 2017 was rescued and brought to the GSPCA from Jersey.

Jonathon as the young animal has been called is needing 24/7 around the clock intensive care due to his thin and very ill health.

Full of worms and with a number of injuries the vets and team at the GSPCA are providing this very poorly seal with all he needs to help ensure he survives at this very delicate time.

Sami who was rescued just after Christmas in Jersey is improving daily although months away from being well enough to be released back into the wild.

Both seal pups were rescued and transported to Guernsey by the wonderful volunteers in Jersey who from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue with the very kind help from those at Blue Islands and both airport staff.

Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and head marine medic at the GSPCA said "Jonathon the grey seal pup has been with us since Saturday and we are doing all we can for this very poorly seal."

"He was brought in with a number of ailments and injuries, extremely dehydrated and emaciated."

"Around the clock we are providing his care at the GSPCA and doing all we can for this very sick seal pup."

"Sami is improving each day and is looking much better since she came in about 3 weeks ago."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "It is great that we are working together in the Channel Islands to help the seal pups and we are doing everything we can for the two seals from Jersey."

"Sami is looking a lot better from when she first arrived in December and is eating fish well and we are appealing for donations to help with her care."

"Jonathon has been with us for 4 days and the vet has been out again today to check his progress and is is extremely thin and has a number of ailments which are being treated."

"With the recent bad weather there maybe many other sick or injured seals and wild animals across the Channel Islands and if anyone finds anything in Guernsey please do give us a call on 257261."

"We will of course keep you up to date how both Sami and Jonathon the seal pups are getting along at the GSPCA.!
