A new plan has been launched today to catch Jessie the stray beagle, but we are having dozens or reports of people trying to chase or follow her which is extremely unhelpful.

Again we had over a dozen sightings yesterday by phone and messaged through to us at the GSPCA and we appreciate all of the continued support.

The new escalated capture of Jessie has been launched after the kind temporary permissions from the States to fence an area off around the trap.

As mentioned yesterday we are hugely grateful to Project who kindly dropped off the fencing this morning.  We are also hugely grateful to States Works who will be dropping off a large number of sand bags to plug the gaps that are present at the base of the fence panels.

This is the biggest undertaking the GSPCA has ever launched for a stray dog and we really appreciate the support from Project, States Works and all of the community.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Today has been a busy day at the GSPCA as we have been working to escalate our efforts with the help from Project and States Works."

"We have had multiple calls and reports of people chasing and following Jessie and we would like to remind people that this is likely to scare her from the area and is hazardous if she runs into the road."

"The GSPCA staff, volunteers and I are visiting our trap throughout the day and night that we have been using to catch Jessie the stray beagle, but she is very wary around it since she was caught on Wednesday and let out by members of the public who thought they could help bring her into the Shelter."

"Today we have been setting up a giant trap for her and if she continues to feed in the area we hope to use it to catch her."

"We have been talking to the States who have kindly allowed us to fence off the area on the west coast around our trap and we would like to thank them for their support."

"We would kindly ask the public not to chase or follow her as we want her to remain in the area for this plan to work."

"We appreciate all sightings and please do call 257261 if you do see her so we are aware of her location and movements."

We are working closely with Jessie's owners to help in the search of their dog and we all appreciate the wonderful public support and reports so far.

We would like to highlight that Jessie is a very nervous and timid beagle cross who has only recently been adopted from a UK rescue and is scared by people and loud noises.

She is an 8 year old, female, white and brindle beagle cross with no collar.

If you do spot Jessie please call us at the GSPCA on 01481 257261

Please do not approach or try to catch her as it is likely to scare her away and not help with her safe capture.

If she is in a secure area where you can close a gate or door then please do so and give us a call at the Shelter immediately.

With all reports the time, location and direction of movement is extremely important.

If you are able to get a picture or video clip this would really help.

At the GSPCA we have team members at the end of a phone and manning our ambulance 24 hours a day.

We are doing everything we possibly can and our team are on stand by to help in the safe capture.

To call the GSPCA please ring 01481 257261 and if you have any pictures please email them to [email protected]

We continue to help in the search of Bertie the stray schnauzer that went missing in November last year, but sadly we have had no reports in some time but if you see him please follow the same advice as above.
