The viewing platform overlooking the new GSPCA Conservation Pond is finished thanks to a contribution from Norman Piette.  The local builders’ merchant donated decking planks, timber and aggregate to complete the build which it is hoped will attract wildlife to the area for the enjoyment of the public.

Norman Piette CEO, Paul Rogers says that wild animals and pets mean so much to the people of the Bailiwick that they were delighted to be able to help.

“We are certainly an island of animal lovers and this platform will be a great place to visit to observe local wildlife. The Social Security department funded the Community & Environmental Scheme team, led by Steve Walters, to do the work as part of their ‘back to work’ training and they’ve done a great job. We think it is going to be very popular.”

The project is part of the GSPCA’s Going, Going, Gone Wild project at their premises in St Andrews and manager Steve Byrne says it will be a valuable addition to the site:

“At the GSPCA we have been working closely with St Andrews Floral Group and many volunteers to help improve the grounds at the Shelter for the wildlife and visitors."

From all at the GSPCA we would like to say a huge thank you to Norman Piette who have helped with an array of wonderful goods to help improve the grounds around our pond area for the many visitors we see at the Shelter."

“Also thanks to the Work to Benefit team who undertook the work we now have an amazing viewing platform overlooking our pond adding safety for visitors and has a special duck path for some of our feathered friends."

"With over 500 animals in our care it has been one of the busiest summers we have seen in a long time at the GSPCA and we always love to hear from amazing and kind businesses like Norman Piette to help with our projects and wishes many you can see on our website www.gspca.org.gg

Ann Wragg of St Andrew’s Floral Group says: "We’re very grateful to Norman Piette for their generous donation of materials. The CEPS team have completed the viewing platform overlooking the ponds, wildlife area and Poison Garden and this has become a focal point of all the landscaping works. A granite wall using reclaimed materials is also being built to finish off the platform where children will be able to enjoy pond-dipping once established."
