India the Guernsey seal pup who was rescued in March and Joey the Jersey seal pup rescued in November have finally had the all clear from the vets, their weights at a great release weight and we have good weather so we are planning to release the seal pups at a secret location this week.
Thanks to the huge efforts of Geoff George and the team the seal pups who were so thin and unwell on arrival are finally off back to the wild where they belong.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “India and Joey the seal pups are ready to be released back to where they belong.”
Today at the GSPCA for the first time Pebble the Guernsey seal pup rescued earlier this year and Andrew from Jersey who came in November 2018 got to meet.
The States of Guernsey last week issued advice that two households could come together and here at the GSPCA Andrew and Pebble are now able to share their pools, expanding their social bubbles.
After months of care and 3 already released to the wild the 3 remaining seals are on the final stretch to the next part of their journey and life.
Having released Marty back in Jersey as well as Gully and Sealia on Jethou recently we now only have Hannah, Mambo and Andy left in our care.
Hannah and Mambo are doing incredibly well but need their final feeds of herring and mackerel and all donations of fresh fish or towards fish are hugely appreciated to fatten them up before their release very soon.
In the last two hours GSPCA Ambulance Driver and Head of Marine Mammals has been out to rescue what is now the third seal pup at the GSPCA.
The call came in earlier today when a dog walker spotted a grey seal pup quite high on the rocks at Vazon.
On arrival the poorly seal pup was found to have weepy eyes, nose discharge, dehydrated and a number of other injuries on its body and flippers.
On route to the GSPCA ‘Gully’ as the seal pup was called was taken to the Vetcare Centres where the pup has been dispensed medication and Gully is now safe and warm at the GSPCA.
Island Rib Voyages have kindly donated 10 vouchers which are on sale at the GSPCA for £29.50 each which entitles each voucher holder a one hour Herm Explorer Wildlife Experience which would make an ideal Christmas gifts and all of the proceeds will help feed Marty and Andrew the grey seal pups at the GSPCA.

For nearly two weeks Trevor and Temperance the Channel Island seal pups have been at the GSPCA.
Both pups are still in intensive care and receiving around the clock treatment and feeds.
Trevor at only 11.5kg from Jersey and Temperance the Guernsey seal pup rescued from Beaucette Marina at only 11kg are in an adjoining enclosure and both are currently cared for at the intensive care seal unit in the GSPCA wildlife building.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Both pups continue on rehydration fluid feed and are under heat lamps and intensive care at the GSPCA.”
Today a grey seal pup rescued in Jersey on Sunday at just 11.5kg has just arrived at the GSPCA in Guernsey.
Trevor as the 2 week old pup has been named has joined Temperance of a similar age at the GSPCA seal unit in Guernsey.
Both pups are around a quarter the weight they should weigh and both very weak so are in intensive care at the GSPCA.
The Jersey pup was rescued by the local branch of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue and was discovered severely underweight at L’Etacq.
This morning the GSPCA team were called out to rescue a dehydrated, thin, young seal pup from Beaucette Marina.
'Temperance' ' as the grey seal pup of just two weeks has been called is the thinnest grey seal pup on record to be rescued by the GSPCA in Guernsey.
Spotted on the headland, GSPCA Ambulance Driver and Marine Mammal Carer Geoff George attended to the scene after a call from a member of public.
With no mother in site and the poor condition of the young animal Temperance was rescued and has just arrived at the GSPCA.
Every Autumn the shores of the Bailiwick see grey seal pups being born, and the GSPCA are issuing advice today to help prepare islanders and those walking our shores.
On the weekend we were called out to what was thought to be an injured seal pup, but instead of finding a seal our Ambulance Volunteer Warden Suzy Rose was sadly faced with a dead conger eel that had been washed up.
It was reported locally in the media that we had rescued and were caring for a seal pup at the GSPCA, although this is not true as the conger eel that we were called out to had passed away.
