Once again the Bailiwick has high winds and weather that puts our animals and wildlife at risk.

Often during the winter months with the high winds and stormy weather makes it difficult for wild animals and birds to feed and rest.

With the high winds we have to ensure our pets and animals kept outside are safe and secure.

Once again GSPCA are asking those that live around and visit our coast to please watch out for injured animals in need as well as seal pups which can get separated from their mothers at this time of year especially when we see bad weather.

For those with animals living outside the GSPCA is urging the owners to ensure they have the Shelter they require as we have seen an increase in complaints and calls from concerned members of public.

We have a number of web pages with wildlife advice or you can call 01481 257261 for help 24/7

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We might be celebrating #GSPCAPurpleWeek and 149 year but once again we have awful stormy weather and we all have to ensure our pets and outside animals are safe as well as keep an eye out for wildlife in need."

"When the wind and waves are up like they are currently, oil that has settled on the seabed can be churned up and can cause seabirds and other animals harm."

"We are still in grey seal pup season and in bad weather they can often be separated from their mothers which can cause them to starve."

“The six young seal pups continue to improve with their around the clock care.”

"We have some great web pages with advice on what to do if you see a seal pup which are being born at this time of year or oiled birds, although we are only a call away on 257261."

"With young seal pups the main piece of advice is to please not approach them as you can scare their mother away and if you see one to please call us on 257261 and we can make sure they are safe or give advice."

Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer said "The six grey seal pups are doing well but with storms like this we often see new born pups separated from their mothers."

"Please do give us a call if you see a seal pup on 257261 as we can check it is well from a safe distance."

Lorna Chadwick Animal Welfare Manager said “We see an increase in reports from concerned members of public about animals kept in fields when we have high winds and wet weather.”

“At the GSPCA we are urging those with animals kept outside to please ensure they have all they need and they are safe with the extreme weather we currently have.”

“If anyone is concerned for an animals safety you can contact us on 257261.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager continues "For those out with dogs please don't let them approach seal pups as this can scare their mothers off and if they were to bite your dog and cause a nasty injury."

"As well as wildlife we have to ensure our own pets and animals are safe and secure with the high winds as we often see dogs escaping from gates being blown open to farm animals escaping."

"We are busy at the GSPCA ensuring our animals are safe with the high winds and cold weather."

“There are many ways you can help support our vital 24/7 work and donate or raise funds for the hundreds of animals in our care.”

“With it being #GSPCAPurpleWeek and  with so many injured animals in our care and certainly more we will need to help this week you can make a donation by going to https://giving.gg/donate/charity/2/Guernsey-Society-for-the-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-(GSPCA) and here is a link to lots of ideas to get involved - https://www.gspca.org.gg/page/gspca-purple-week .”
