430am Saturday morning 3 staff and one volunteer were queuing outside the White Hart as the sun rose to start the 38.5mile Itex Walk around Guernsey.

The GSPCA team were made up of Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager, Geoff George Animal Collection Officer, Tony Gallie Animal Care Assistant and Natalie Randall Volunteer Warden.

With over 500 walkers taking part, the sun shining, the wind blowing and a long way to go the team set off south towards the cliffs just after 5am.

With so many taking part, the start was very much a long line of walkers going around the cliff pathes and despite the early hours everyone was friedndly, happy and chatty.

After a lot of ups, downs and many steps there was a breakfast laid on at the first checkpoint at the Gourffe which the whole team enjoyed.

The team then battled the second section of the cliffs and enjoyed many of the stunning views.

All four did extremely well and despite a huge effort sadly at 34 miles Natalie had to call it a day just after Beaucette Marina.

After 15 hours of walking Tony, Geoff and Steve completed the walk which after a few wrong turns completed well over 40 miles of walking and enjoyed some lovely scenes.

Steve Byrne said 'What a fantastic day, despite a bit a of sun burn and blisters between us we all really enjoyed the walk on Saturday.'Itex Walk 2013 GSPCA Animal Shelter Staff Steve Byrne Geoff George Tony Gallie

'Natalie did really, really well and how many people manage to walk over 34 miles in one day?'

'The organisors and volunteers from the Itex Walk were fantastic and we all appreciated the encouragement and all the supplies keeping us going.'

'We are still collecting our sponsorship and will be handing it in to help all the worthy causes which include the GSPCA which we are very grateful for.'

'Thank you to everyone that that has sponsored us and especially to all involved with the Itex Walk it really was a great day.'

If you would like to send a late donation towards their efforts then you can do so by calling 01481 257261, popping into the Shelter in St Andrews or by following the Paypal link below and reference 'Itex Walk'
