Once again the GSPCA have a Halloween full of black cats.

As seems the trend across animal welfare organisations the black cat certainly isn't the lucky colour of the feline world.

Currently nearly half the stray and unwanted adult cats at the GSPCA are either black or black and white and some have been looking for a new home for over a year.

At the GSPCA we have no problem in finding kittens homes and in fact we have a waiting list of owners looking for young cats.  Also the grey, ginger, tortie and light coloured cats are homed quickly at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews, but for those black or black and white can often find their stay much longer than those of other colours.

Madam Mitzi is the longest stay cat at the Shelter, a black cat that has been with us since April 2013.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Currently we have 6 black cats and 16 black and white in need of homes at the GSPCA."

"It appears a trend that so many black cats in Shelters are left in preference for other colours which is such a shame as we have so many amazing black or black and white cats in need of homes."

"With black cats a hot topic on Halloween with the witches of the world we are appealing for anyone looking to adopt a cat to think of those in need at the GSPCA and other rehoming organisations."
