The week of Half Term the GSPCA are running Spooky Tours and Halloween Treasure Hunts at the GSPCA.

Last year we had young vampires, cats, zombies and monsters for the scary events at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

The groups on arrival will have lots of spooky things to do and see from Webster our tarantula to the many lizards in our care, black cats and many others some with scary names.

Tours take about 45 minutes and once the treasure hunt quiz is complete all will get prizes for their great fancy dress and doing well in the quiz.

Thank you to all that supported us at the Support Adoption for Pets Summer Fundraising Drive at Pets at Home over the Summer.

This Summer the GSPCA were at Pets at Home with GSPCA team members, a few of our teams animals and some from the Shelter.

We were helping sell their Scratch Cards for the Support Adoption for Pets Summer Fundraising Drive with the sales of tickets in Guernsey helping the many animals at the GSPCA and even had the Pets at Home Manager locked up in a cage raising funds for the GSPCA.

On Sunday the Guernsey Cockapoo group organised a wonderful event on Pembroke Beach for dog owners.

Organised by Kerry Le Cheminant they raised an amazing £259 for the GSPCA in just one hour.

Kerry Le Cheminant said “Guernsey Cockapoos arranged a ‘Play Date on the Beach’ on Sunday morning with donations going to the GSPCA.”

“It was a beautiful sunny morning and the dogs had an amazing time playing on the beach and making new friends.”

“There were approximately 50 Cockapoos ranging from 14 weeks old to 8 years old.”

Last year Geoff George our Animal Ambulance Driver won the Emergency Hero Award in the Pride of Guernsey Awards and this year we have been humbled and shocked as the GSPCA, two staff and one volunteer are finalists at tonight’s Pride of Guernsey Awards.

Voting closed recently and tonight is the big night we find out if any of our finalists will win this years awards or if they will be sharing the lime light with amazing Guernsey people and organisations.

Taking place from 7pm at Cafe Amiti La Nouvelle Maraitaine come join for a fun evening of Bingo in aid of the GSPCA and Clic Sargent.

As well as bingo there’s a bonus ball and raffle

On Monday we held our 11^th volunteer induction and greeted 15 new helpful faces eager to help the animals and work of the GSPCA.

This year alone we have inducted 147 new volunteers, placements and work through these inductions and are graced with an average 120 volunteers each week but with over 500 animals in our care there is always plenty to do.

World Animal Day is celebrated each year on October 4. It started in Florence, Italy in 1931 at a convention of ecologists. On this day, animal life in all its forms is celebrated, and special events are planned on locations all over the globe. 4 October was originally chosen for World Animal Day because it is the feast day of Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals and the environment. Numerous churches throughout the world observe the Sunday closest to 4 October with a Blessing for the Animals.

On Sunday 30^th September the GSPCA team and animals took over the Beau Sejour reception area and Beau Cinema for a sell out event.

The Peter Rabbit movie was being shown at Beau Cinema in aid of the GSPCA and the reception area at Beau Sejour was filled with animals in the care of the GSPCA, games and tombolas, those in fancy dress, giant mascots including Beausie Bear and Peter Rabbit as well as the plans, leaflets and a 3d head set showcasing the proposed new Wildlife Hospital which is a much needed new facility.

On Saturday 22^nd September the GSPCA 1920s Ball took place at the Farmhouse Hotel.

The Farmhouse was packed with supporters and fantastically dressed 1920’s tables raising funds in aid of the GSPCA.

The £1000 raffle took place and all winners should have received a call or text about their prizes.

The entertainment was fantastic and there are so many thanks to give to so many that supported with a very special thank you to Suzy Rose and Michelle Champion who took this years mantle in running such a great night.
