A loggerhead sea turtle rescued in Guernsey following the devastating impact of Storm Ciarán in November 2023 is now preparing to return to the wild near the Azores, marking the end of an extraordinary journey of care, collaboration, and perseverance.
Affectionately named Barnacle Bill, the young female turtle was found washed ashore covered in barnacles and weighing less than 1kg. She was taken in by the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA), becoming only the second loggerhead turtle ever recorded in Guernsey.
We have already had a number of bids on the 62 dolphins starting at £500 being emailed to steve@gspca.org.gg.
This week thanks to the incredible staff at Artex all 61 Guernsey dolphins from the Dolphin Discovery Trail in aid of Autism Guernsey and GSPCA have been collected, with the final dolphin on route when the weather is fine from Herm.
The dolphins have been an incredible spectacle for islanders and visitors alike with over 1000 participants with the turfapp treasure hunt app.
The Dolphin Discovery Trail 2025, in aid of Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA, has officially wrapped up its treasure hunt, and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part! With over 1,000 users on the Turfhunt app, the trail has been a resounding success, bringing colour, creativity, and community spirit to Guernsey.
The GSPCA is launching an urgent appeal for funds and forever homes for four very special cats, including Spud, a brave young kitten who has overcome incredible odds and currently recovering from an operation at the vets from a blockage.
