Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said "Last week a stray canary was rescued and brought into the Shelter who we have called Joey."

Bonnie the grey seal pup 4 weeks on

Submitted by Steve on 15:31, 12th Feb, 2016 | 0

Nearly 4 weeks ago the GSPCA were called out to rescue an emaciated grey seal pup.

We are pleased to report that Bonnie is doing very well and is putting on weight each and every day.

Her thin body and neck is putting on that much needed fat and she is eating extremely well going through 3-4kg of fresh fish every day.

Still under weight for her age it will be at the very least 6 weeks or so before she is fit, fat and well enough to be put back in the wild.

Yesterday a stray dragon was saved in Guernsey.

Out at Jerbourg Point a member of public came across a stray Bearded Dragon.

Very cold the team at the GSPCA have named the unusual stray Oliver and we are pleased to report despite being out in the Guernsey winter he is now safe at the Animal Shelter and made it through the night.

Their natural habitats include deserts, arid and rocky areas, dry forests and scrublands and are mainly found in the eastern and central parts of Australia and not the south east of Guernsey.

The GSPCA ask please Think Fairtrade and Free Range this Pancake Day

Submitted by Steve on 08:51, 9th Feb, 2016 | 0

This Shrove Tuesday many of us will shopping for our ingredients today.  The GSPCA would like to remind everyone to think of the produce that you are going to use and please look to buy Animal Welfare friendly products such as free range eggs.

Although the EU legislation has forced many battery farms to improve their standards, chickens that live as free range birds have a much better quality of life.

Appeal for Lucky a cat who could have cancer

Submitted by Steve on 14:42, 4th Feb, 2016 | 0

With over 1000 cats helped at the GSPCA every year we strive to do everything we can for the many strays, cruelly treated and unwanted cats.

At the end of August a 6 year old female cat found her way to the GSPCA when her owner could no longer care for her.

Although in fairly good health on the day she arrived during her assessment we discovered she had cat flu and also had sores on her feet.

After two months of treatments and veterinary care 'Lucky' as she is called improved and got better.
