Earlier this week we reported on Jubilee an injured stray cat that was rescued in the Castel area.
We would like to thank everyone for their donations towards Jubilee and we are pleased to report his eye is healing extremely well and he is improving daily.
He has had a full week of treatment and continues his assessment and time as a stray within the Animal Welfare Ordinance as all stray animals must be kept for a minimum 21 days at the GSPCA
On Monday Carter one of our bunnies went to his forever home during what is nationally known as Rabbit Awareness Week.
Every year the GSPCA help nearly 200 wild and domestic rabbits in Guernsey.
Carter is one of many rex rabbits that have come into the GSPCA needing a new home and had been in our care for nearly 3 months.
We currently have 17 rabbits in need and the longest stay are Liquorice and Honey who arrived in the summer last year.
On Saturday the GSPCA team were busy celebrating Liberation Day whilst raising funds for animals in Guernsey.
Stalls were set up on North Beach Car Park and at the Last Post and were manned by volunteers and team members that had given their time to run the games, tombolas and entertain the crowds as animal mascots.
Once again the GSPCA have been very close to Jessie the stray beagle cross that has been loose for 2 weeks.
Jessie has now settled in St Andrews and we have had a number of sightings of her. Earlier today GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne spotted her as she took.
She originally went missing in St Martins and Jessie has been seen previously in Forest, Castel and near St Peter Port.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We have a good idea where Jessie the stray beagle cross is and we even found her collar earlier today."
On Friday of last week 'Jubilee' as we have named him, a stray sick cat was rescued from the Castel area.
Jubilee was caught by a member of public near Castel Hospital and has a nasty left eye injury and a few other health problems.
On Friday he was rushed up to the vets and is currently on a series of treatments.
We have estimated Jubilee to be around 3 years of age and is an entire male, semi long haired black and white cat with no microchip.
We are appealing for the owner to come forward but it is likely he has been a stray for some time.
Earlier today another stray tortoise was brought into the GSPCA.
'Monroe' as staff and volunteers have named the adult tortoise was found on Oatlands Lane.
Monroe has a distinctive white patch on his shell.
Each year we see around 30 stray tortoise handed into the GSPCA and we currently have two strays at the Shelter.
If you think that this may be your lost tortoise then please call the GSPCA on 257261 or pop into the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
On Monday a stray tortoise was brought into the GSPCA.
'Hugo' as staff and volunteers have named the male, adult Herman's tortoise was found in St Saviour's.
Hugo is quite distinctive with an under shot jaw and a deformed front right leg.
Each year we see around 30 stray tortoise handed into the GSPCA and we find the owners for nearly every one.
Thankfully he is safe and warm at the GSPCA, but we are appealing for the owner to come forward.
Last night at the GSPCA we welcomed 15 new volunteers to the team.
Shortly after 6pm eager new faces started to arrive to learn about the GSPCA and how to get involved.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne was on hand to meet and greet the group who came from all walks of life.
The group were given an induction on about the GSPCA and the different volunteer roles.
A talk on working safely at the GSPCA was followed by a calendar of upcoming GSPCA events.
Last night the GSPCA had reports of Jessie the lost beagle cross near La Trelade.
Jessie has been missing from St Martins since last Tuesday and on Friday staff got very close to her at the Villoq Estate near Samuarez Park at 3pm.
Previous sightings have been along Les Beaucamps, Route de la Hougue du Pommier and Rue de la Ronde Cheminee, and on the weekend Le Grande Mare, Fleur de Jardin and Havilland Hall, on Tuesday night at the Foulon Cemetery, Wednesday morning possibly at Specsavers near the airport.
