It's that Spring time of year - Baby bird advice for Guernsey - please remember often healthy fledglings are best left alone

Submitted by Steve on 23:37, 3rd May, 2016 | 0

With Spring well underway the GSPCA are asking Islanders to please be mindful of the many fledglings popping up around the Bailiwick.

The GSPCA would like to remind that as a general rule, it is best to leave baby birds alone.

A baby bird has a greater chance of survival in the wild than it has being hand-reared by man as they learn to fend for themselves and how to forage for food by their parents.

Around 2 weeks after hatching young birds in your Bailiwick garden usually leave the nest, just before they learn how to fly.

This month marks the year anniversary from when St Andrews Floral Group started supporting the GSPCA in helping develop the grounds around our wonderful site in the heart of Guernsey.

The work undertaken has included everything from planting natural willow hedges to improving the bio-diversity on site.

The work has a keen focus on conservation and last week saw another amazing charity and conservation group join in and help the flora, fauna and wildlife that live in and around the GSPCA.

A great Taste at the first Seafront Sunday - thank you to all involved

Submitted by Steve on 15:13, 3rd May, 2016 | 0

A huge thank you to all that supported our stall Taste of Guernsey Seafront Sunday.

This weekend was the first of the Seafront Sundays and saw over 4000 visitors off a cruise liner which made for a very busy day.

Once again we set up just outside Marks and Spencer with all of our fun games, tombolas and a few goods on sale.

We raised over £800 and our stall proved very busy throughout the day which saw quite some sunshine.

Win the chance to see Bonnie the grey seal pup being released back to the wild by donating to her final fattening appeal

Submitted by Steve on 13:02, 30th Apr, 2016 | 0

Bonnie the grey seal pup who was rescued on the 16th January has been through a long rehabilitation and we are now in the final stretch. To achieve this we are offering the chance to see her being released to one lucky person.

When rescued she was close to death being extremely thin and having a number of debilitating health conditions.

After 3 months of treatment and care we are now trying to get the final fattening pounds on her to ensure she is ready for the wild.

Biscuit the persian cat thinks her new home is purrfect

Submitted by Steve on 16:13, 27th Apr, 2016 | 0

Finding each animal a loving new home can often prove challenging as the hundreds in need that come through the doors may well have health issues, behaviour problems or even brought through no fault of their own.

From strays to road traffic accidents, lost cats to cats with welfare issues we help over a 1000 cats each year and help between 100 and 200 find a new home.

Some cats have health issues or behaviour problems and can be with us for many months with one cat taking over 2 years before a loving new home was found.

Submitted by Steve on 12:14, 27th Apr, 2016 | 0

If you're out and about why not pop by the Taste of Guernsey Seafront Sunday this weekend.

We will be setting up from 8am for a 10am start and it is their first Seafront Sunday of 2016 and first of the year.

It is likely we will be once again just outside Marks and Spencer with all of our fun games and tombolas.

The GSPCA will hopefully have a stall at every Seafront Sunday this year and on Liberation Day and we are looking for volunteers to help us out on the days.
