Today is Ferret Day and the GSPCA have the lowest record ferret numbers

Submitted by Steve on 08:16, 2nd Apr, 2019 | 0

Today is Ferret Day and many ferret owners will be celebrating with their wonderful pets.

In recent years we have seen a decrease in the number of stray and unwanted ferrets and currently we only have 2 ferrets in need of homes at the GSPCA.

If we just go back 5 to 10 years the GSPCA would often help over 50 ferrets a year and would often have 10 to 15 looking for new homes.

Currently there is just Whiffy and Tiffnay at the GSPCA two young ferrets in need.

Both came in last Summer from the St Andrews area and are currently looking for new homes.

Some very special thanks helping feed the seal pups to Solent Clams Ltd, Mike Ward and Manor Farm Food from the GSPCA

Due to the recent inclement weather and rough seas the GSPCA have been struggling to source enough fish to feed the six seal pups that are rehabilitating at the GSPCA.

An Urgent Fish Appeal went out and we received some wonderful donations from local fisherman, individuals and companies but we have to say a huge thanks to Solent Clams Ltd.

When fish supplies were desperately low the team at the GSPCA contacted almost everyone they could think of.

It is #InternationalSealDay please support our 6 seal by donating to their care and the Urgent Fish Appeal

Submitted by Steve on 10:57, 22nd Mar, 2019 | 0

Today is #InternationalSealDay and with our 6 seal pups at the GSPCA we really need your support.

We currently have an Urgent Fish appeal to help our seal pups for ideally mackerel or herring but any sea fish that has been caught in the last 3 months would be hugely appreciated.

Eating at least 20-30 fish each per day we are going through over 150 fish a day and with the recent rough weather many fishermen that support us have been unable to go out.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Today is #InternationalSealDay and at the GSPCA we have 6 currently in our care.”

URGENT FISH APPEAL With the stormy weather we need your help for fish for the seal pups at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 11:59, 19th Mar, 2019 | 0

We are pleased to report that all six seal pups are doing well and improving daily.

In fact when there is a break in the weather we are hoping to release Marty the grey seal pup back in Jersey where he was rescued.

The weather however is playing havoc with the fresh fish we require for the seal pups and despite deliveries in bulk with the sustained bad weather we have had recently our stock is starting to run low.

The GSPCA is currently appealing for fish caught in the last 3 months, ideally herring or mackerel but any whole sea fish would be much appreciated.

It’s Poultry Day could you help a duck, hen or cockerel in need at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 11:20, 19th Mar, 2019 | 0

Every year the GSPCA helps hundreds of stray, sick and injured poultry and we currently have 9 chickens, quail and quite a few ducks in our care and one resident.

The main resident is a bird call Major a very fine cockerel who arrived one day as a stray and despite asking around the area he either walked someway to the Shelter or could well have been dumped at the GSPCA.

Major is a very friendly cockerel and enjoys following the team around and is quite enjoying the daffodils which he can be seen walking around at this time of year.

At the GSPCA we love to hear from those animals rehomed from the GSPCA and recently we had an update from Sparkle.

We often help animals from around the Channel Islands and Sparkle came from Sark,

Sparkle went to her new home last month and as you may see from the picture she is very happy.

Her new owners said “We promised to send an update on Sparkle, who we adopted just over two weeks ago.”

“We are pleased to say that she has settled in really well and is purring a lot.”
