Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It is incredible the range of sponsored events people undertake to raise funds for our work at the GSPCA.”
“We have recently had the lovely story from Anaëlle and Maëlie who are just 8 and 10 years old.”
“We are incredibly grateful to both Anaëlle and Maëlie for undertaking such a kind act which not only raised an amazing £175 for the GSPCA, it will have helped save the lives of wildlife by removing rubbish from our coastline and helped the environment as a whole, all while making it a prettier place for us all to enjoy.”
On Monday the GSPCA opened its doors for the first time in over 2 years for an Educational Guided Tour.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager met nearly 30 Brownies and their leaders at 630pm on what was a lovely sunny evening.
The tour started in the hospital department where some of the Brownies got to feed some baby birds and finished in the cattery.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was lovely to take around the first Educational Guided Tour for over 2 years on Monday.”
The GSPCA helps hundreds of rabbits every year and we are currently looking to build a new small animal section ahead of the Wildlife Hospital.
Within the Small Animal Department we have nearly 30 rabbits in our care as well as degus and rats
One of the newest arrivals in Ponyo a young rabbit who was gifted to the Shelter as the owner could no longer afford his care due to his health.
At the GSPCA we are exceptionally busy, and especially the number of dogs staying with us.
Whether you have a spare hour a week or free days, there are any opportunities and especially in our kennels.
Not only are we looking for volunteers, but we also have vacancies especially those willing to work weekends.
Do you love hedgehogs? Could you help us care for the 100’s through the doors every year?
We are currently recruiting for additional weekend staff and volunteers to help on our hedgehog department.

The 2022 Charities Fete at Government House is just around the corner, and with 50+ organisations registered to participate its set to be a great day raising funds and promoting the work of lots of great causes.
This prestigious event has grown in popularity over recent years, and attracts large numbers of visitors. Following feedback after last year’s event, this year it will be on a Sunday – to hopefully appeal to more visitors.
There will be entertainment, refreshments, lots do see, do and more.
The GSPCA are delighted that we will be holding the second volunteer induction of 2022 after a 2 year break due to covid.
The volunteer age for inductions is now from 16 years and up and we have opportunities in all parts of our activities here at the GSPCA.
The evening starts with introductions followed by an induction into our work, the opportunities and cover all aspects of health and safety to enable the new volunteers to understand the operations and what we do at the GSPCA.
All around Guernsey each year businesses and offices have had their 4 legged friends come to work and this ear Bring Your Dog To Work Day takes places today, Friday 24th June.
Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity.
When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work. Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work?
The GSPCA couldn’t achieve so much without our dedicated trained staff and we currently recruiting for staff, especially for those available during weekends and bank holidays.
It is preferable if applicants have a driving licence , but not necessarily essential at this time.
