GSPCA Seal Pups Making Great Progress as Ice Ice Baby and Icicle Move to the Next Stage of Rehabilitation

The GSPCA is delighted to share an update on the four grey seal pups currently in our care. After weeks of intensive support, Ice Ice Baby and Icicle have now progressed to the next stage of their rehabilitation — moving into one of our larger specialist pools earlier this week. Both pups are eating extremely well, gaining weight, and growing in confidence as they continue their journey towards release.

Meanwhile, Blizzard and Iceberg Lettuce remain in our intensive care area, where they continue to receive specialised support, including assisted feeding and close monitoring. Both pups are improving, but still require additional help before they can begin the next phase of their recovery.

Seal Release Competition – Winner Announced Next Week

We’re incredibly grateful for the wonderful support shown by the community for our seal pups and the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal through donations at:
https://giving.gg/donate/event/10265/Guernsey-seal-pups-and-the-GSPCA-Biggest-Build-Appeal

Everyone who donated through the link and left a comment has been entered into our special prize draw to join the GSPCA team at a future seal release.
The winner will be announced next week, and we want to sincerely thank every single person who has contributed so far — your generosity truly helps save lives.

Quotes

Geoff George, GSPCA Head of Marine Mammals, said:

“Ice Ice Baby and Icicle have made fantastic progress, and their move into the larger pool earlier this week went extremely smoothly. They settled in straight away and are clearly enjoying the extra space to swim, dive and build their strength. Both are eating brilliantly and, at the rate they’re going, they should be ready for release very soon. Blizzard and Iceberg Lettuce are still in intensive care and need that extra bit of help, but they are improving every day. We are incredibly proud of all four pups, and grateful to everyone who supports their journey back to the wild.”

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:

“We are thrilled to see the progress of our seal pups, and we cannot thank the public enough for the kindness shown through donations and messages of support. Our #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal continues as we pass the halfway mark, and the new facilities are looking absolutely amazing — a real testament to what this community can achieve together. There is still much to do, and we continue to welcome support through donations, our Buy a Brick scheme, and many other ways to get involved. These improved facilities will help wildlife, pets and the community for generations, and every contribution makes a real difference.”

Thank You from the GSPCA

We will continue to keep the community updated on the progress of Ice Ice Baby, Icicle, Blizzard and Iceberg Lettuce as they move closer to their return to the wild.

Thank you once again to everyone who has donated, shared our appeal, or supported the GSPCA in any way — together, we are making a life‑changing difference for these beautiful young seals.

#GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal Update

The GSPCA Wildlife Hospital, part of the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal, continues to progress impressively. The west wing roof trusses are now complete, giving a striking preview of the future facility, and the east wing roof trusses are scheduled to begin very soon.

With the project now at its halfway point, the GSPCA is encouraging supporters to join the appeal by:

  • Donating to the Build Fund
  • Sponsoring a room, kennel, aviary, or specialised unit
  • Supporting sustainability upgrades, including planned solar panel installations
  • Taking part in events or community fundraising
  • Leaving a gift or message of support via giving.gg

Every contribution supports the future of wildlife rescue in Guernsey for generations to come.
