Dexter the young cat really loving life in his new home

Submitted by Steve on 13:37, 4th Dec, 2019 | 0

You may have seen our two recent posts on older cats desperately in need of homes and how Spud and Dexter are settling well in their forever homes.

This is Dexter one of our rare younger recent residents that as you can see is loving his wonderful new home.

It is great that we see very few kittens in need or suffering, but this does mean we don’t often have many young cats in need of homes, but we certainly have many older cats needing that special someone.

Help Guernsey Hedgehogs in what is a record year in numbers arriving at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 11:44, 26th Nov, 2019 | 0

Many think that Guernsey hedgehogs like their cousins in the UK hibernate but sadly this is a rare occurrence for the majority of our spikey friends as they require a temperature of 5c or below for their body clock to switch to this Winter behaviour.

With the mild climate we have in the Channel Islands it is rare for a day to go by that we don’t rescue of help a hedgehog 365 days a year.

What looks like Palm Oil once again spotted along the Guernsey coast & Dog Owners Warned of Substance on Beaches

Submitted by Steve on 15:30, 11th Nov, 2019 | 0

It seems like a yearly occurrence sadly that we have to warn dog owners of the presence of a waxy substance along our coast line which could well be Palm Oil once again.

The public is advised not to remove the palm oil but anyone who has picked any up should double wrap it in plastic and dispose of it with their normal refuse.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have seen reports of the white oily substance being seen along our coast here in Guernsey and we are asking all dog owners are being vigilant.”

Submitted by Steve on 12:00, 11th Nov, 2019 | 0

The GSPCA are appealing for witnesses after a bucket containing up to 30 dead chicks was found in a public car park in St Martins.

It is unclear as to whether the chicks were dead or alive when they were left in the area.

GSPCA Welfare Manager Lorna Prince said "the disposal of any life in such a way is disgusting”

“It is not clear if the birds were privately owned or whether a member of the public had taken it upon themselves to dispose of feral chicks in the area.”

“Regardless of their origin disposing of them in such a heartless manner is repugnant."
