As we work through the phases of Coronavirus the GSPCA continues to have heightened bio-security and social distancing in place.

Recently the States of Guernsey issued the following advice for pet and livestock owners -

‘Please take a moment to check the website for the most up to date version of our pets and livestock guidance.

We have improved the guidance for professional dog walking, grooming, visiting the vet, what to do if you are self isolating and much more....

This information is likely to change as restrictions ease slowly.

Stay safe!’

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “The States of Guernsey have a page dedicated to advice on Pets and Livestock which they have recently updated and to find out more please visit .”

“With lots of businesses phasing back to work many are looking for advice and guidance on how to operate safely.”

“At the GSPCA we are continuing our essential work with our heightened procedures and aren’t looking to relax protocol at this stage so please call or interact with us online to find out more on our operating procedures.”

“For businesses there is more help, advice and guidance such as Animal Business Guidance and Walking Someone Else’s Dog in the UK from the Canine and Feline Sector Group web site, better known as the CFSG which has some excellent resources.”

“CFSG is made up of influential organisations who advise the UK Government on behalf of the sector on strategically important dog and cat health and welfare issues and standards such as the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes which we are a member and I am a Trustee.”

“We hope this information is useful to both pet owners, as well as dog walkers and animal businesses.”

“Another great way to supporting is by donating each month and to find out details please visit this web page .”

The Canine & Feline Sector Group is a membership body which unifies the sector and is therefore able to improve efficiency through sharing information and resources with its members. The Group responds collectively to Government consultations and provides expert advice to policy makers on all issues relating to dogs and cats whilst ensuring the members are kept updated on developments and any changes affecting their work. By developing a united group from across different disciplines in animal welfare, key areas are targeted by the members developing a strong focus and recognisable expertise within one body. Whilst CFSG is a membership group, it is open to engagement with other organisations and individuals. CFSG is best placed to give advice on the welfare and health of dogs and cats but it also seeks to ensure there is a full understanding of the role of dogs and cats in society and the benefits they bring.
