Blue came into the Animal Shelter as an extremely thin stray nearly 3 months ago.

After doing a number of tests it has become apparent that the poor little fella is hyperthyroid and therefore on treatment for the rest of his life.

The vet has estimated that he is between 9 and 11 years old but it is difficult to say due to his health problems.

What is Hyperthyroidism?  Hyperthyrodism (overactive thyroid glands) is a very common disorder of older cats. It is caused by an increase in production of thyroid hormones from the thyroid glands, which are situated in the neck. Clinical signs associated with hyperthyroidism can be quite dramatic and cats can become seriously ill with this condition. However, in most cases such as Blues hyperthyroidism is treatable and most cats will make a complete recovery.

Fortunately we discovered Blue had this and he is now on treatment for the rest of his life and he has gradually been putting on weight over the last 11 weeks.

For this reason we need a very special owner for Blue.  Not only will they need to medicate him daily but he will need regular vet checks every few months.

He has some dietary requirements and supportive treatments due to his health but the staff at the GSPCA would love to find him that forever home.Blue the cat with hyerthyroid at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in Guernsey looking for a loving home

He enjoys his bed and being groomed by our volunteers and staff.

Anna Paint, Senior Animal Care Assistant said ‘I just love him to bits, he’s such a special little character.’ ‘He was so thin when he arrived and stills looks it but he has put on so much weight for a cat with his condition.’

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said ‘We have lots of cats looking for special homes but Blue is one of those that every member of the team just adores.’ ‘He’s a scruffy chap but that’s him and when he’s not sleeping he just wants some love.’
