WATCH OUT for online scammers selling puppies, kittens and other animals

Submitted by Steve on 12:28, 13th Oct, 2020 | 0

The GSPCA has been made aware of possible scams of unscrupulous individuals advertising pictures of puppies for sale in attempt to deceive those looking for a new 4 legged friend.

Covid has affected the world in many ways and trying to find a new pet is more difficult now than it has been for many years.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “At the GSPCA we are extremely concerned about reports of people falsely advertising animals online to try and deceive people looking for a new pet out of their money.”

Choosing the right puppy and welfare advice from the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 16:03, 28th Aug, 2019 | 0

If you're thinking of getting a puppy, it's important to do your homework first. GSPCA Welfare & Behaviour Manager Lorna Prince shares this guidance which was put together in association with other animal welfare groups, Defra and the British Veterinary Association to help prospective owners choose the right puppy for them:

1. Carry out your research first. Different dogs have different needs and temperaments depending on, for example, their age, breed, health status, gender, and past experiences. A vet will also be able to give you information and advice on this.

Submitted by Steve on 09:59, 6th Jun, 2019 | 0

All around Guernsey each year businesses and offices have had their 4 legged friends come to work and this ear Bring Your Dog To Work Day takes places on Friday 21st June.

Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity.

When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work.  Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work?

Last August 25 Slovakian puppies were stopped at Guernsey Customs in an awful state on route to the UK.

Then in September the two people transporting them were in Guernsey Magistrate Court for animal cruelty and fraud to hear their verdicts.

A 59-year-old man from the Slovak Republic was found guilty of animal cruelty and fraud and fined a total of £2,500.  He was told that the fine must be paid from custody or he would serve the alternative of 14 days in prison, which he quickly paid.
