Fund raising

With Spring comes the growing season and the GSPCA are appealing for funds to help towards a new mower for the Shelter.

With over 3 acres of grounds there is a lot of grass at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

We have been offered a fantastic machine for only £350 and we would love it if someone would be kind enough to help towards it.

The machine would be used to cut the fields and grounds where we walk and exercise the dogs as well as the areas where our resident ducks reside on our pond.

After 2 weeks we caught Slygo earlier this week and to help celebrate and also raise funds for the GSPCA and the many animals in our care we are asking you to join us tomorrow night.

This year three of the GSPCA staff will be taking part in the Itex-Rotary Walk around Guernsey.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne, Animal Collection Officer Geoff George and Animal Care Assistant Tony Gallie are braving the whole 38.5 miles to help raise funds for the annual event and the 2013 chosen charities.

The walk has now become one of Guernsey's key fund raising events for local charities and attracts several hundred participants every year determined to complete the nearly forty mile route.

2013 is the sixteenth year that the walk has been held and each year significant sums of money have been raised. In 2012 the walk raised nearly £52,000 and with your help we will hit a similar level this year.

This morning the doors opened to the GSPCA Pop Up Charity Shop in Smith Street thanks to OSA Recruitment.

Staff and volunteers will be manning the shop daily between 9am and 5.30pm with extended hours on Thursday for the late night shopping.

As you enter the shop we have a Christmas Tree which was donated by Le Friquet Garden Centre.

On the tree are holograms in shapes of animals which can be bought by the till and are to remember past pets.

The holograms are only £1 each and all proceeds will help raise funds for the GSPCA and animals in Guernsey.

On Wednesday the 18^th July a group of students from Les Beacamps High Year 10 organised a biathlon to raise funds for the GSPCA Animal Shelter.

Andrew Wilkinson and friends Kieran Torode, Josh Tucker and Sam Le Ray departed on bike from Vale Church and rode to the Imperial Hotel.  They then walked the rest of the way to Jerbourg Point.

They left at 10am on the Wednesday got to their final destination around 3pm.

The GSPCA would like to thank the Guernsey Swimming Club who organise the Christmas Day swim for allowing GSPCA supporters to take part in the Swim at the Havelet Bathing Pools.

There are a number of brave souls that will be giving up some of their Christmas morning to jump in the icy water and raise funds to help the work of the GSPCA.

Tomorrow from 11.30am until 2pm why not pop along to the Town Church for a soup lunch.

Every penny spent will be supporting the GSPCA and Bridge 2 Sri Lanka.

There will be over a dozen soups from top chefs from around Guernsey who need your vote to choose your favourite and the one with the most votes will be the 2012 Big Soup Kitchen Champion.

The 2011 winner was Dave Matheson with his Caribbean Spiced Vegetable Soup with Chicken Jerk Strips.

This year we are pleased to announce that Waitrose are sponsoring the event and we are very grateful to them.

The GSPCA would like to thank OSA Recruitment for there wonderful Pop Up Charity Shop initiative which started on the 23rd November with Communicate having the first week in the shop.

The Pop Up Shop situated on Smith Street has 4 charities taking part each week in the run up to Christmas including Communicate (who are rebranding as GO), The Red Cross, Bridge2Sri Lanka and the GSPCA.
