Last Wednesday we had our second Volunteer Induction Evening which was even more popular than the first.
With 24 in attendance and 18 wanting to sign up as volunteers the GSPCA welcomed the group into the family.
From those wanting to help muck out to those wanting to fund raise they arrived and were welcomed at the Shelter before having a presentation and talk about the work we carry out as well as an Induction to enable them to work safely at the Shelter and during our events.
This Sunday the 14th July 2013 at the Bon Port Hotel we would like to invite you to Labradog Day, a day to celebrate Labradors in Guernsey.
Organised by Cherry Dewey we are asking labrador owners from around the Bailiwick to come along with their Labradors for a fun filled afternoon.
We are also trying to get as many Labradors from around the island so we can get a phot of them all together.
The day includes -
The GSPCA helps care for and rescue thousands of animals every year and without our wonderful volunteers we really couldn't do it.
From cleaning kennels to fundraising there are dozens of roles for volunteers to help the GSPCA and next Wednesday we have our second Volunteer Welcome and Induction Evening.
With the success of the first last month which drew a crowd of 18 new volunteers to the Shelter the second is planned for 6.30pm on the 17th July.
Last Thursday 'Tomcat' as he's been named had a very close escape.
Having escaped from his home Tomcat was spotted after being dropped by a Bird of Prey who nearly had him as a meal.
Fortunately the lucky Budgie that was found at Ronez Quarry was rushed to the GSPCA and is recovering well.
Tomcat is under treatment in an intensive care unit and we are appealing for the owner to come back.
Tomcat is a male Opaline Spangle Light Blue adult Budgerigar and if you have lost yours please get in touch on 01481 257261 or pop in to the Shelter in St Andrews.
The GSPCA would like to officially thank BDO Limited for their Charitable Trust donation which has enabled us to erect additional aviaries that will assist in the rehabilitation and release of the many sick, injured and orphaned birds that arrive at the Animal Shelter every month.

Yesterday the GSPCA microchipped the first Hedgehogs in Guernsey.
Scatters then Bonnie were the first two Hedgehogs to be chipped at the Shelter and the first to be know to be chipped in the Channel Islands.
The GSPCA have been using paint and plastic tags to help with monitoring the hogs released from the Shelter but these as with many methods fall and run off.
The GSPCA deal with hundreds of Hedgehogs every year and with declining numbers in the UK the Animal Shelter want to know if a Hedgehog returns to the Shelter that we can accurately tell this is the case.
The GSPCA would like to thank Rebecca Johns who popped into the Shelter yesterday with a fantastic donation of £157 which she has raised through a sponsored silence.
Rebecca downloaded a sponsor form from the GSPCA website and printed it off with help from her boyfriend and managed not to say a word during the event on the 9th June.
When Rebecca popped in yesterday GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said a huge thanks and Rebecca also got to meet and hold for the first time a baby ferret which was found as a stray and is now called Finley.
On Sunday the 21st July between 2 and 4pm staff from the Insurance Corporation are running a Family Carboot Sale at Specsavers Car Park to raise funds for the GSPCA and the many animals at the Shelter.
The day will run with an animal theme and there will be plenty to do and see.
Sellers are asked to arrive from 1pm and it is £5 per car.
On the day there will be mini donuts, cakes, animal balloons, face painting and a fancy dress competition (that's humans dressed as animals).
