On Saturday 7 volunteers from the Medical Specialist Group (MSG) spent the day helping at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
With a busy few weeks ahead of the Animal Shelter with Spring and many fund raisers from all of our team and animals we would like to thank the MSG staff for all of their help.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us at the GSPCA and we are especially looking for volunteer wardens.
We have provided a 24 hour rescue service for over 40 years and we couldn't do this without our wonderful team of volunteers.
Our Volunteer Wardens help ensure between 6pm and 8am 7 days a week any rescues, collections of strays or other emergencies are responded to.
We are looking for additional volunteers to help provide both the night cover and to help on Saturday and Sunday between 8am and 6pm.
As part of Volunteers Week and our continued recruitment of volunteers to help animals in Guernsey last night we greeted 7 new faces wanting to help at the GSPCA.
From work experience to Duke of Edinburgh, dog walking to reception, cat pen cleaning to helping with the wildlife, fund raising to volunteering to gain experience for their CV all of the group were looking to help the work of the Animal Shelter and some to help gain life skills.
Getting to the Shelter was a little challenge with the road closure but all arrived around 6.30pm.
At the GSPCA we care for between 200 and 300 animals at any time and work 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Without volunteers we couldn't carry out the vital animal welfare work and on Wednesday we are holding our next volunteer induction evening at 6.30pm.
We are currently looking to find volunteers that can help in all areas and especially help us cover the ambulance work which we have carried out as a 24 hour service for over 40 years.
TEN members of staff from the Medical Specialist Group gave up a sunny Saturday this weekend to undertake voluntary work at the GSPCA.
The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has a huge variety of duties that need to be completed on a daily basis and so are very grateful when islanders volunteer to give them a hand.
As well as the obvious chores of feeding and exercising animals and cleaning out the kennels and cattery, there are also a number of site-maintenance jobs.
Today the GSPCA have been at the OSA recruitment Pop Up Shop with a selection of other charities to speak to the community about volunteering.
With the sun shining, the GSPCA would like to thank OSA Recruitment, Volunteer.gg, Association of Guernsey Charities and the Community Foundation for the chance to join some great causes in St Peter Port to spread the word of helping animals in Guernsey through Volunteers Week.
