Spring is always a busy time for the GSPCA and 2013 is no exception.

Last night in just two hours the Shelter accepted a feral kitten, a stray dog, a stray cat, a cormorant that had got trapped behind a fence, an injured duck, an injured gosling, a young collared dove and an injured gull.

That doesn't include the many others that came in throughout the day.

With Spring comes the breeding season for many species and when out and about it is not uncommon to come across young birds and here is a link to advice on what to do if you see any - please click here.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'It was extremely busy here at the GSPCA Animal Shelter last night and with the numbers we had in one of our wildlife rooms went from empty to full very quickly.'

'Apart from the stray dog last night the largest we had in was a cormorant we have called Bray who had found himself trapped behind a fence in St Sampsons and thanks to Natalie one of our volunteer wardens he is now safe at the GSPCA.'

'We have lots of young birds that we are currently hand rearing and we would like to remind everyone that if you find a young fledgling and its parents are still about to place it somewhere safe that they can carry on rearing it as they are always best brought up with their parents in the wild but any queries or if you aren't sure please do call us on 257261.'

Here are a few video clips of the wild birds at the Shelter -
