On Sunday the team all enjoyed releasing Sami the seal pup back into Jersey waters near to where she was rescued back in December.

No-one could have forseen that the Jersey British Divers Marine Life Rescue team who helped Sami and watched her swim free would hours later be rescuing another grey seal pup in need at such an unseasonal time of year.

The young pup has a number of health problems, a lot of nasal discharge and very underweight for its age so has been in the care of New Era Vets and is currently on route to the GSPCA.

We will update you with further information as soon as we can.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We are all a bit in shock at the moment as we have never seen an injured or sick grey seal pup at this time of year and to happen as we released Sami on Sunday is something that we thought be impossible in the middle of the summer as they breed during the winter months."

"The Jersey BDMLR team have done yet again a great rescue and currently arranging transport for this poorly seal to Guernsey and the GSPCA and it is wonderful that once again Jersey and Guernsey are working together for the wildlife of the Channel Islands."

"We are going to have to get a lot more mackerel and herring in for this poorly pup and anyone that can donate or support its care you can donate online, by phone 257261 or at the GSPCA."
