In the heart of St Saviour’s a lovely walk through pretty countryside, alongside part of the reservoir, beside duits, down lanes & paths to St Apoline’s ancient Chapel and St Saviour’s Church to see medieval paintings and wonderful stained glass windows and fabulous views along the way.

Start from the Reservoir car park in Rue a L’Or (Perrys guide 21G1), a few minutes walk up hill from Le Mont Saint bus stop – route 61.

Forts and Forests, Heroes & Villains

A really varied walk overlooking the sea and the petrified forest, pass fortifications and pick up your way down grassy tracks (sometimes muddy), spend a few minutes in a nature reserve hide, step back in time at the Elizabethan Lookout and enjoy the stunning views and hear about a few of the Heroes & Villains of the area.

Start from Vista’s car park, Vazon Bay (Perrys Guide 14B1)

Larry the Madeiran lizard in need of a home

Looking to help a reptile in need of a home, well Larry the gecko that’s travelled all the way from Madeira is now looking for a home.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “You may have heard about Larry who is a tiny lizard that hid in the bags of an islander and gave them a shock on their return from a holiday to Madeira.”

“He’s now out of quarantine and is ready to find his forever home.”

“If you can help Larry or any of the animals in need of a home please do get in touch.”

Huge thanks to RBS staff for helping out at the GSPCA – GSPCA Celebrating 150 years

Last Wednesday the GSPCA have had a wonderful group of 7 staff volunteering from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

Their team arrived at 9am and were greeted by Training and Community Officer Tim Pellet and helped in many areas around the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

Tim Pellett GSPCA Community and Training Officer said “It was great to greet, meet and get the lovely team from RBS helping around the GSPCA last Wednesday.”

“They were a great help and helped in the wedding and tidying around the GSPCA and spruced up our Memorial Garden.”

Dudley the Puffin Parade Puffin heads back to St Martins Primary School via an anonymous bidder

On Tuesday the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey hosted the Puffin Parade auction which was an amazing evening and the amount raised from the auction has now gone up an extra £200 to £98,400.

There are many stories to tell about the new homes of the many Puffins and one that warms the heart is Dudley.

Dudley was sponsored by Dowding Signs and during the Parade was placed outside the Farmhouse Hotel was originally painted by St Martins Primary School.

Order of the Secret Monitor Province of the Channel Islands helping house hedgehogs at the GSPCA

Each year the Province of the Channel Islands Order of the Secret Monitor chose two charities to support and in the past year one of those charities was the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).

The GSPCA helps over 3000 wild animals every year and many more domestic and those in need.

The animal the GSPCA helps more than any is the humble hedgehog, in fact over 700 in a year.

New Volunteers join the GSPCA team at the Volunteer Induction Evening last night

The GSPCA really could not do so much without its amazing team of volunteers and supporters which have helped for over 150 years.

Last night we welcomed two new team members who came along to our Volunteer Induction Evening.

Both are planning to help with dog walking and we are very much looking forward getting them started.

From the Committee to those that walk dogs, fund raisers to those that help with admin, gardeners to those helping with IT, the companies who send their staff to help to so many others the list goes on and on.

Puffin Parade Auction an incredible success for GSPCA and Autism Guernsey

On Tuesday 12th September 2023 all 60 Puffins from the Guernsey Puffin Parade for the first time were all in one place in their glory.

After an epic undertaking by all involved in putting together the Guernsey Puffin Parade all 60 Puffins were put on display at St Pierre Park Hotel ahead of the auction.

The day saw 1000’s of islanders and tourists visiting the 60 puffins and also donating and purchasing Puffin Parade raffle tickets and tickets to attend the auction.

New date for the GSPCA 150th Ball at St Pierre Park Hotel Saturday 10th February 2024 tickets on sale and could you sponsor

The GSPCA is currently celebrating 150 years since being founded in 1874.

As part of the celebrations we are holding a Ball which will now take place on Saturday 10th February 2024 which is our founding day and will be during the GSPCA Purple Week 2024.

As part of the celebrations we would like to invite you to a very special evening to mark this momentous occasion with a range of entertainment and decorations thanks to Save the Date.

The evening starts at 630pm and dress code is black tie or why not go with a purple theme as is the GSPCA logo.
