Staff at Aurigny have raised more than £1,000 to be split between two worthy causes in the island.

Fundraising initiatives were organised by colleagues at the airline, including “Dress down Fridays”, to support both Les Bourgs Hospice and the GSPCA.

In total £1,053 has been split equally between the charities.

CEO Mark Darby said he was delighted with the efforts of staff. He said: “These are two fantastic local charities, which both play a vital role in our community, so we’re really pleased to support them."

“The work of both Les Bourgs and the GSPCA has made a huge difference to so many people in Guernsey, and they are two causes very close to the hearts of staff here at Aurigny."

“I’d like to thank everyone who played their part.”

Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager, said the animal shelter really appreciated the support. “The GSPCA are hugely grateful to the wonderful, caring and supportive team at Aurigny for all they do to help animals in Guernsey."

“The donation from their fundraising is hugely appreciated and will be a huge help to the 350 animals in our care and the thousands we help every year at the GSPCA."

“When Molly the beagle came with me to collect the donation for the GSPCA at the Aurigny desk it was wonderful to see how much their staff care for animals and they all loved seeing her."

“Aurigny have been a huge help to us at the GSPCA over the last year with the biggest story of 2016 being their help getting Olivia the loggerhead turtle to the UK before being flown to the Canary Islands."

“From all at the GSPCA a huge thank you to Aurigny and all of their wonderful staff.”

Les Bourgs Hospice director Jo Boyd MBE was equally thrilled with the donation. She said: “Les Bourgs Hospice is delighted to receive the cheque for £526.50 from Aurigny which we will use to help with the day to day running costs for our seven bedded in patient unit and the day hospice.”

The GSPCA team are hugely grateful to Aurigny and all that help support our work. In 2016 we heled in excess of 3000 animals and each day over 300 are in our care needing feeding and looking after.
