The GSPCA helps save animals lives 24/7 365 days a year but without our team and supporters we couldn’t achieve so much.

Last year before the pandemic the GSPCA received a number of sessions for our team by Mike Froome from the Cardiac Action Group to help learn and for some refresh their skills in CPR and also use an AED.

The GSPCA were very kindly purchased an AED to have onsite by the wonderful Investec team and although thankfully we haven’t had to put it to use, it is an invaluable piece of equipment to have at our very busy Animal Shelter.

Last week Mike once again returned to the GSPCA to run a series of refreshers for some and others to have their very first training.

Tim Pellett GSPCA Training and Community Officer said “It was great to have Mike from the Cardiac Action Group back last week to run the training sessions with some of our team on CPR and the use of the AED.”

“Covid has even affected what we were taught last year so we all learned some new skills and also had a lot of fun at the same time.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are hugely grateful to Investec who bought the AED machine for our site last year and Mike for coming to check it over and also provide the fantastic training.”

“Not only is the GSPCA very busy we are often out in the community and the CPR and AED training helps give the team the knowledge that could save a human life in future.”

“The GSPCA is not just about saving animals lives, we are here for one another and our community and we love to work with other organisations to develop skills and knowledge.”

“Sadly our Pet First Aid Courses are on hold but we do hope to restart them later this year so do watch out for more information.”

“With few fund raisers and next to no boarding due to lockdown the GSPCA income has been hit hard and we need your support now more than ever.”

“There are many ways you can help support our vital 24/7 work and donate or raise funds for the hundreds of animals in our care.”

“With over 140 hedgehogs, 3 seal pups, dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, fish, reptiles and many birds we help over 3000 animals through the doors every year.”

“With so many animals in our care we would love you to join our sponsor scheme to help us each month.”

“Just a couple of pounds each month can make a massive difference in helping the animals in our care and to find out more please go to http://www.gspca.org.gg/sites/default/files/Angel%20sponsor%20form%20special%202018%20new.pdf .”

“To make a donation you can go to https://giving.gg/donate/charity/2/Guernsey-Society-for-the-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-(GSPCA) .”

“We couldn’t do so much without your support and here a few ideas of how you can help us help animals in Guernsey.”

CAG was originally formed to support the rehabilitation of Guernsey cardiac patients recovering from a heart attack or recent surgery. In recent years as this remit has passed to HSSD, they have extended their provision to include the promotion of life saving CPR* (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the recognition and use of defibrillator devices which are positioned across the island.

Additionally, CAG can provide training for CPR and the use of AEDs/PADs. CPR & AED/PAD training with CAG Training and familiarisation with both CPR and defibrillator devices can literally save a life in an emergency situation when time is of the essence.

CAG provide a first aid professional for this purpose, Mike Froome.  Mike can be booked free of charge and is also generally available at public events. Training is most effectively deployed in a group situation and is available to everyone. If you run a community group, work in a school or would like your staff in the workplace to have the benefit of this training, please contact them directly - https://cag.org.gg/pads-aeds/cpr-and-aedpad-training/
