Last night the GSPCA were invited to a special evening at the Lieutenant-Governors Goverment House.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne attended what was the Saffery Champness Rotary Walk Ceremony and Awards Evening.

It was a lovely night with the many sponsors of the round island walk that takes place in June, volunteers, walkers and special invited guests.

Last year the GSPCA were lucky enough to be a recipient of the 2013 walk which helped purchase a new Nissan van which is used as an ambulance around the clock helping rescue animals.

The reason this year we were invited was due to the fact there was a new Selfie Award.  During the walk participants were asked to take selfies and post them online.

The GSPCA team of Steve Byrne, Geoff George, Tony Gallie and Dani Brouard with their mascot which they named Slygo took a selection of selfies whilst walking around the island.

Many of the pictures were of the cuddly dog Slygo who was named after the stray terrier that had been a stray out on the cliffs for many months during early 2013 and the GSPCA helped to catch so many of the tweets referred the what had happened earlier that year.Saffery Champness Roatry Walk Selfie Award 2014 GSPCA Slygo

Whilst receiving the award and to keep in the spirits Steve Byrne who received the award from the Saffery Champness Managing Director Nick Batiste took a selfie of the presentation.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We must thank all involved for a wonderful Saffery Champness Rotary Walk Ceremony and Awards Evening."

"It was a lovely surprise for us at the GSPCA to win the Saffery Selfie Award 2014."

"The four of us at the GSPCA and our mascot dog took part in the walk as many of us had really enjoyed the 2013 event which we were lucky enough to receive a donation to help pay for a new van and we wanted to show our support."

"When I went up for the award to keep in the spirit of the award I took a selfie of the presentation with Managing Director Nick Batisite from Saffery Champness and it certainly brought a few chuckles in the room."

"Thank you from all at the GSPCA for the award."
