Last week a team of 5 from CEPS helped out at the GSPCA with a number of projects.

In 2004, the Social Security Department introduced the Community & Environmental Projects Scheme (CEPS). CEPS provides temporary work and training opportunities for people who are not working due to unemployment or long-term illness. CEPS is managed on behalf of the Social Security Department by States Works and project work is selected with training opportunities in mind so that people learn new skills.

The group that helped out all of last week had a variety of skills and gained new ones as they built gates, dry stone walls, paint and assisted with other work around the site in St Andrews.

One area of huge importance was a dry stone wall next to the new entrance as well as fixing a collapsed section of wall along our boarder to the road.

The team painted aviaries, our wishing wells and many of our planters around the site.

The team even upcycled some gates out of old pallets to help with the safety of animals around the Animal Shelter.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We have been working with the Social Security department with a number of projects in recent years and have helped over 30 placements with the Work 2 Benefit scheme we launched together at the Shelter last year."

"The CEPS group we had help last week I have to say were fantastic as they helped with so many jobs we were struggling to find the time and money to do as we are so busy with so many animals in our care."

"The team from CEPS came up with some great ideas to upcycle things we had on site to carry out some of the work needed to be done and also had a great skill set carrying out the jobs to a fantastic standard."

"A huge thank you to all of the team that helped from CEPS and the foreman Steve, it really was hugely appreciated and we look forward welcoming them back very soon."
