The team at GSPCA although are pleased to report that Sami the grey seal pup continues to improve we sadly lost Johnathan earlier this week.

Both seal pups were rescued and transported to Guernsey by the wonderful volunteers in Jersey from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue with the very kind help from those at Blue Islands and both airport staff.

Sami and Jonathan arrived extremely weak, dehydrated and with a variety of ailments and have needed around the clock 24/7 care. Sami has responded well to her care and treatments but sadly Johnathan who had seen the vet regularly and was being cared for around the clock was struggling to make improvemets and early Monday morning sadly passed away.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We are deeply saddened at the GSPCA to report that despite sleepless nights and around the clock care Johnathan the grey seal pup passed away early Monday morning."

"It has been an extremely upsetting time for the team at the GSPCA after working with the vets and doing everything we could for this very poorly seal pup."

"Some good news is that Sami the seal pup is doing better each day and is eating fish extremely well."

"It is very hard when animals arrive so sick and with so many injuries and although we are all devastated to have lost Jonathan we are all trying to stay positive and doing all we can to ensure that we can get Sami back to the wild which will take months of care."

"Sami is eating dozens of fish each day and we are appealing for donations to help Sami grow strong and put the weight on needed to be released back to the wild."

"We will of course keep you up to date how Sami the seal pup is getting along at the GSPCA."

Steve continues "Just £8 will help us feed and care for Sami the seal pup each day and we really do appreciate all of the support we have already had."

"A great way to help Sami the seal pup and all of the other animals in our care is to join in with GSPCA Purple Week from the 10th February and we'd love to hear from you if you'd like to do something."
