Last month at the GSPCA we posted this lovely plea for sponsorship and support for a very kind person wanting to support local charities –

‘Please Sponsor Alex Murrell’s Golf Challenge for GSPCA, the Guernsey Blind Association & Guernsey Alzheimer's Association

Alex Murrell is raising funds for the GSPCA, Guernsey Blind Association ( La Grande Mare Golf Club Mens Captain's charity) and Guernsey Alzheimer's Association. (Lady Captain's charity)

Alex Murrell said “I will be attempting to play the 10th hole at La Grande Mare Golf Club 100 times in 1 day, June 21st.”

“l am looking forward to raising as much as I can for these 3 fantastic charities.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Today Alex is attempting to play the 10th hole at La Grande Mare Golf Club 100 times in 1 day is aid of GSPCA, the Guernsey Blind Association & Guernsey Alzheimer's Association.”

“From the GSPCA we are hugely grateful and wish Alex the best with this challenge on a very warm day.”

Then more recently and after the amazing event the Guernsey Press wrote and pulished this fantastic update -

‘LA GRANDE MARE golf pro Alex Murrell raised almost £2,000 for a selection of Guernsey charities last week as he completed his challenge to play the 10th hole of the course 100 times in a day.

Mr Murrell’s initial target was to raise £1,000 to split between three different charities – the GSPCA, the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association and the Guernsey Blind Association.

The PGA assistant professional set up the crowdfunding page in May and hit his fundraising goal almost three weeks before the day of his event.

‘I wanted to do give something back to the island, I have been here for three years now and I love living here,’ he said, after his day on the tee.

‘Guernsey has been so kind to me since I moved so I wanted to do something that would help Guernsey.

‘I am also a huge animal lover, I have two wonderful cats of my own so I chose the GSPCA as my charity. The ladies’ captain at the club picked the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association and the men’s captain chose the Guernsey Blind Association, so that’s why there were the three.’

The club pro began his challenge at 8.30am and finished the 10th hole for the 100th time at about 5.30pm.

‘It was a really good day, the weather was nice and I was topped up with sun cream and water throughout so it all went well,’ he said.

‘I would love to do something like this again – the plan for me now is to try and do at least one fundraiser every year because I want to keep giving back to Guernsey.’’

The GSPCA are hugely grateful to Alex and all involved in raised what was £2600 to help the work at the GSPCA and the many animals in our care.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “What an amazing amount Alex raised with his 10th hole challenge.”

“It was a lovely sunny day and from all the animals and team we cannot thank him enough as well as all that supported him the La Grande Mare Golf Course, the sponsors and Guernsey Press for the lovely write up and picture.”

“There are many ways to support our 24/7 work and anyone wanting to take on a challenge like Alex please check out https://www.gspca.org.gg/fundraising or please get in touch on 01481 257261 or email [email protected] .”

“Thank you again to all involved and especially Alex.”

“There are many ways you can help support our vital 24/7 work and donate or raise funds for the hundreds of animals in our care.”

“With over 100 hedgehogs, 2 seal pups, dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, fish, reptiles and many birds we help over 3000 animals through the doors every year.”

“If you would like to support our Amazon Wish List and see lists of items that we use every day and things that we are appealing for.”

“If would like to help with wish list items you can call us on 01481 25721 or email [email protected] or the easy way to see many items we are in need  is by going to our Amazon Wish List https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/25MJPPDAGXHL1?type=WishList .”

“We do promote buying items locally but shopping online can help raise funds at the same time as if you select the GSPCA through easy fund raising part of the amount through 1000’s of online retailers comes back to the GSPCA and it has raised over £2500.”

“To sign up to do this please visit http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/guernseyspca/?u=1CHID8 .”

“Sadly Amazon Smile doesn’t allow Guernsey charities to sign up but you can go through easy fund raising to achieve the same donation.”

“As mentioned you can always chose to donate via local stores and the Amazon Wish List is a shop front showing some of the items we need but there are many others and we have published these on our Wish List page http://www.gspca.org.gg/about/our-plans-wish-list .”

“A gift of a tiny bowl costing less than a £1 to a £600 intensive care unit, every donation is hugely appreciated and really makes the team smile that there are those that care and want to support our work.”

“Another amazing way to support our work is by just a couple of pounds each month can make a massive difference in helping the animals in our care and to find out more please go to http://www.gspca.org.gg/sites/default/files/Angel%20sponsor%20form%20special%202018%20new.pdf .”
