Last week the GSPCA warned of the dangers of the stormy weather and sadly two orphaned grey seal pups were the result.
On Saturday the GSPCA had a report of a seal pup hauled up between Fort Doyle and La Fontenelle Bay, so Geoff George headed out to check out what had been seen with his partner Dani Brouard.
The 6 week old seal pup was found dehydrated and at only 25kgs, 15kgs under her ideal weight.
The pup has been called Luna C and is now under the 24/7 care of Geoff George Head of Marine Mammals and the GSPCA team.
Aurore was rescued in Jersey on the 23rd October by British Divers Marine Life Rescue after the poorly pup was reported to the JSPCA who passed on the details to the specialist rescue team.
We are pleased to announce that Pork Pie the grey seal pup originally from Cornwall is doing well and improving daily.
Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and Head of Marine Mammals said “Little Pork Pie's wounds have healed and he is improving daily.”
“All 4 seal pups are eating well although Titan prefers mackerel to herring.”
“India, titan and Joey will hopefully be released next month but we have to ensure they are fit and well enough and we have good weather before we can set a date.”
Last night the GPSCA team were called out to the Fairy Ring for a poorly seal pup.
The pup was covered in cuts from a bloody nose to open wounds underneath and for its size very thin.
The seal pup also had a green tag with the number SL109.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Last night the team were called to the Fairy Ring to attend a poorly seal pup.”
“In attendance was Geoff George, Dani and Beckie and as the sun was setting they were pointed to a pup by a kind family out on a walk that was indeed very poorly.”
This morning the GSPCA were called out to attend what was reported to be a poorly seal pup at Perelle.
The team were dispatched to find an approximately 12 week old grey seal pup.
Only a little under weight the main concerns was it being lethargic and very chesty.
The pup was collected by Head of Marine Mammals GSPCA Geoff George and is now safely at the GSPCA.
This week Ellie the seal pup enjoyed her first dip.
Ellie has now joined seal pups Joey and Titan in our rehab pools as she is strong and well enough to do so.
We are really pleased to report that Joey is eating well on his own and Titan and Ellie are learning what to do and putting on weight daily.

In the early hours today the GSPCA team were devastated as Blaze the grey seal pup passed away.
Found emaciated, with a number of ailments and injuries Blaze had been receiving treatment and around the clock care.
Despite making it through the first few nights Blaze passed away early this morning.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are extremely saddened to have to let everyone know that Blaze the grey seal pup passed away early this morning.”
