Nearly 2 months to the day since the grey seal pups Jethou Bumblebee and Hanois were released by the GSPCA back into local waters and a month since they were last spotted we are pleased to announce that the residents of Jethou spotted them once again back in the bay where they were released yesterday afternoon.

Jethou Bumblebee who was rescued on Jethou in November of last year at only 4 weeks of age and Hanois who was rescued at Pleinmont in January also only a month old were both very sick and emaciated on entry.  Both seals needed around a 1000kgs of fish each but were nursed back to health after a lot of hard work and a few sleepless nights.

Once again both pups were seen playing in the bay and appeared well and healthy so staff and volunteers at the GSPCA were overjoyed with the news.

The GSPCA posted a large number of pictures on our facebook page of the release and have asked anyone who see's seals looking similar or even better have pictures of local seals to send them in to the GSPCA.

We have been in touch with both the local Island Rib Voyages and the Bumblebee Cruise team to let us know if they see them and between them they have seen groups of up to 23 grey seal pups in local waters.

Geoff George Animal Collection Officer and main carer of seals at the Shelter said 'It was fantastic news once again to hear they are doing well.'

'It is so rare to get to know how they are doing once they are released but it really is great news.'

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'All the team are so grateful to those in Jethou keeping an eye open for them and it really warms the heart to know that they are well.'

'We would love to improve the seal facilities for next year and welcoming any donations towards this as we do for all of our projects on our wish list.'
