Last week British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) Jersey rescued a poorly seal pup spotted on Les Écréhous.

Joey at a very thin 18kgs was cared for over night at New Era Vets before being transported to Guernsey.

To donate to his care please visit https://giving.gg/donate/event/5876/GSPCA-Coronavirus-Emergency-Appeal

Geoff George Head of Marine Mammals at the GSPCA said “Joey was extremely thin when he arrived but remains very feisty which is a good sign.”

“He has lost his white coat which happens at only a few weeks of age.”

“I’ve been caring for him around the clock and he is doing well but has a long way to being a healthy pup and ready for the wild.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager “Geoff has been caring for Joey around the clock and we are so pleased he is doing so well after his first week of care.”

“He will need a lot of treatment and fish and anyone wanting to donate to his care please call 01481 257261, at the GSPCA, Rue des Truchots, St Andrews, Guernsey GY6 8UD or online https://giving.gg/donate/event/5876/GSPCA-Coronavirus-Emergency-Appeal .”

“To help ensure we can help animals 24/7 why not become a regular sponsor to help animals like Joey especially during these extremely difficult days and to find out more please visit http://www.gspca.org.gg/sites/default/files/Angel%20sponsor%20form%20special%202018%20new.pdf .”

“We really couldn’t do so much without your support and every penny really helps make a difference.”

“We are in the middle of seal pup season now in the Channel Islands and if you see a seal pup please do not approach it but do take a picture and send it in and give us a call so we know where they are and assess they are okay.”

“By approaching a seal pup you could scare its mother away and put the pup at risk so please keep a very safe distance and do not allow your dogs anywhere near them.”

“For advice on what to do if you find injured wildlife please visit https://www.gspca.org.gg/animals/wildlife-advice or call us 24/7 on 01481 257261.”
