Over the last 24 hours we have received an unbelievable 16 gulls all displaying signs of extreme illness and unfortunately 4 we have not been able to save.  The birds have been barely able to stand and are extremely weak.

We have been making enquiries to find out if there could be any reason why such a large number of birds have been found in such a short space of time.

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager said 'We are appealing for anyone who finds a gull or any injured bird to get in touch.' 'It could be something someone has thrown out and affected the birds with food poisoning to something out at sea, we really just don't know at this time.'

The 12 surviving birds are at the GSPCA Shelter in the hospital section being given regular treatment and care.  The shelter is hoping that it is an isolated incident and that these are all of the birds that are affected.

If anyone has any further information or finds any injured animals we would urge them to call 01481 257261 or bring them to the shelter in St Andrews.
