GSPCA Urges Respect for Livestock Following Reports of Cattle Being Disturbed
The GSPCA is reminding the public that deliberately disturbing, chasing, teasing or causing unnecessary stress to cattle and other livestock is both cruel and potentially dangerous.
Farm animals may appear calm and approachable, but they can become frightened or stressed when approached inappropriately, particularly at night or in unfamiliar situations. Disturbing livestock can have a negative impact on their welfare and may also put people at risk of serious injury.
Every day the GSPCA help lost and stray animals and almost daily farm animals.
Some of these are due to dogs being walked worrying the herd or individual animals which can result in them being hurt or escaping.
With the larger farm animals we are called out to help everything from escaped horses to sheep in the road, cows in gardens to pigs out and about and many more.

The GSPCA is becoming increasingly concerned about the number of ‘pet’ pigs that are being brought into Guernsey. These so called ‘Micro’ or ‘Mini’ pigs are often advertised as cute little pets that are easy to look after. Sadly however they have very specific welfare needs and as such their suitability as household pets must come into question. Celebrities such as David Beckham, Paris Hilton and Katie Price have all received these animals as presents and they have now become a much desired fashion accessory.
