Each year at the GSPCA we review the costs of our services and from the 1st August a cost of living will start to account for the rising costs to care for your beloved pets when they stay with us.
Boarding is one of the main income stream to the GSPCA other than donations and the team love looking after your pets to help us to carry out our animal welfare and rescue work.”
The GSPCA are in the process finally to go to tender for the much needed facilities at the GSPCA.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “The GSPCA is about to go to tender for the BIGGEST Build in our 151 year history.”
“We fitted a new Small Animal Unit last year, which we have some final touches being completed currently.”
“This had to be done ahead of the three new builds we wish to do which will be a Wildlife Hospital, new Welfare and Rehoming Kennels and Ferret Unit.”
This October marks the GSPCA celebrating 93 years at our current site in St Andrews in our150th year.
In October 1929 the GSPCA purchased its present site in the area known as Les Fiers Moutons, St Andrews.
The house, outbuildings and ¾ vergee of land were bought freehold for £400.00 plus a further 2 vergees of land for £120.00 and an extra £5.00 included the spring and well.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “The GSPCA is currently in the process of its BIGGEST Build in our history.
Not only is it our 150th year we are currently trying to ensure the future for the GSPCA.
Ahead of the Wildlife Hospital Build we are currently building a Small Animal, Reptile and Bird Unit, the first of its kind at the GSPCA and essential before we push forward to build the Wildlife Hospital as the buildings they are in currently will be and need to be removed due to their condition and age.
The current lock down has caused huge challenges at the GSPCA and the team have taken a proactive approach to face the wide range of issues.
At the Animal Shelter we have 42 kennels and as of yesterday the only dog for rehoming inline with the strict social distancing guidelines was rehomed through our online adoption process.
This means we are in unprecedented times as we have no dogs at the GSPCA in kennels or foster homes.
Over the last few weeks much needed work on the kennel floors has taken place, but this has uncovered major drain and structural issues.
Our kennels which were built in 2005 had a vinyl flooring put down which had sadly got to a point recently where new flooring was desperately needed which has been taking place since mid May.
The first two sections required more work than expected and a few concerns were raised, but the work was undertaken and repairs carried out.
Today the team refurbishing our kennels returned 7 amazing looking kennels back to the GSPCA to use for our dogs.
In for a home dog Benji took the first steps into the stunning green floored housing area we have for the dogs in our care and he looks very happy in his smart new area.
The cost per kennel is around £1,450.00 and we must say a huge thanks to those that have donated so far and we would really appreciate any support or help to further fund this much needed work that is required due to deteriorating floor.
Between the 14th and 27th May 31 of our kennels are having new floors fitted.
This means there will be some disruption to our normal service and sadly sections of kennels will be out of use so to ensure you have space if needed please do book early.
The cost per kennel is likely to be around £1,450.00 and we appreciate any support or help to this much needed work that is required to take place due to the current deteriorating floor.
By donating £1450 you can help us refloor one of our kennels which will then last for decades.
