On Friday 20th July the GSPCA team welcomed three of the team from Guernsey’s larger sister island Jersey from their animal welfare charity.

JSPCA staff Lucinda, Babs and Kari were greeted at Guernsey airport in the early hours by GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who spent the day talking to the visitors and showing them the work, projects and plans for the future for the GSPCA.

The staff from Jersey got to meet members of the GSPCA team from volunteers to staff, work experience to trustees and had a through behind the scenes tour.

The JSPCA were founded 5 years ahead of the GSPCA and this year the JSPCA celebrate 150 years since they were founded, while the GSPCA celebrates 145 years.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was a real pleasure to meet the team from the JSPCA and show them the work we do here in Guernsey.”

“We spent the day exchanging ideas and talking how the GSPCA and JSPCA can work closer together which is very exciting for the future.”

“Although Jersey and Guernsey are very different in many ways, we both face similar challenges and it was a great day meeting and chatting to the Jersey team and we look forward visiting them soon.”

GSPCA President John Knight BVetMed, MSB, MRCVS said “It was great to meet the staff from the JSPCA and we are looking at ways we can work closer together and help each other out.”

“GSPCA Treasurer Phil Soulsby, Vice President Adele Malpas and I from the GSPCA Committee were extremely pleased to host them and show case our work and the hope is to develop future relationships.”

“It was a very successful visit.”

Babs Barbara Keywood PR & Media Manager said “We were delighted to spend the day with the staff and share ideas about the two charities.”

“It was wonderful to see the facilities available and the vital work carried out around the island. We look forward to forming new relationships and working closer together in the future”
