This New Years once again the GSPCA want all animals and humans to have a safe and enjoyable celebration.
Every year we hear of firework related incidents involving animals and children. While fireworks may be exciting and pretty to look at and its fun to celebrate many celebrations with a bang, we must put our safety, the safety of our pets and the local wildlife first.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “As we fast approach 2024 we want to ensure any fireworks events this New Year are notified to islanders.”
According to the States of Guernsey fireworks page there is at least one firework event tonight.
It is a private event planned to take place in the Rue de la Perruque, Castel, GY5 7NS area sometime after 530pm.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager “Due to the recent awful weather it appears a number of firework events have been planned to this weekend and at the GSPCA we want to ensure all pet owners keep their animals safe and think of our wildlife.”
With a busy firework events cancelled lots week and rescheduled for tonight the GSPCA would like to remind everyone of the notifications to help those affected by the loud bangs and safety information for pet owners.

"The high winds and weather stopped many firework events taking place last week and all seem to have moved tonight according to the States advice page on fireworks."
From this evening until Sunday we have been made aware of dozens of fireworks events taking place over the next 3 nights.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have all had a rough few days with the weather and from tonight we all now have to think of our pets and animals with the firework events taking place.”
“Tonigh we are aware of over a dozen fireworks events tonight around the same possibly tomorrow and a much larger number taking place on Sunday.”
With a busy firework period fast approaching the GSPCA would like to remind everyone of the notifications to help those affected by the loud bangs and safety information for pet owners.

“The loud bangs and bright lights can often scare animals and we often see an increase in escaped animals during these periods.”
