The GSPCA are reminding all dog owners about the beach restrictions that came into place yesterday in Guernsey.

Dogs are not allowed on or off lead on the following beaches between 1st May – 30th September:

Fermain

Petit Bot

L’Eree

The Northern end of Vazon

Port Soif

Cobo

L’Ancresse / Pembroke

Dogs are also excluded from Shell Beach, Belvoir Bay, Fisherman’s Beach and the stretch of beach in front of the White House Hotel to the Herm Jetty.

All of the above beaches are clearly sign posted at key access points to inform members of the public when dogs are to be excluded from these areas. (The Control of Dogs Ordinance 1992)

Dog walkers are also asked to avoid Richmond and Vazon to help the wading birds that feed and rest along the stretch of coast.

Please also note that horses can't be ridden on the shore lines between 10am and 7pm during these dates.

Vehicles are also banned from the beaches during the day times unless you have permission.  The coastal speed limit at Cobo and Vazon also drops to 25 miles per hour from the 1st May until the 30th September.

There are of course many other beaches and areas that you can enjoy with your dog and even many local eateries, places to drink and stay and the GSPCA have put this page together with some of the local businesses ou can enjoy with your canine friend - http://gspca.org.gg/about/dog-friendly-public-houses-restaurants

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Many of us love to take our dogs out for a walk along the coast but dog owners need to be aware that the summer restrictions are back in place so there are a few favourites that we can't use now until October."

"There are still many beaches and coastal areas where we can but it is important to be aware of other animals, wading and nesting birds which mean we all need to ensure our dogs are well trained or on a lead if they aren't recall trained and even more so at this time of year as we have seen many orphaned wild animals and birds in the last few weeks."

"If you are looking to take your dog out for the day we've been putting a page together on our website with many local great places happy for them to enjoy their food, beverages or even hotel room with your dog."
